Please allow Copy/Paste functionality from Power BI Desktop. We often need to recreate PBI reports in Excel just so we can Copy tables or charts and paste into PowerPoint or simply email it. Need stronger integration with other Office products. Copy/paste seems so basic.

Note: Our company uses PBI Desktop and PBI Report Server (on SQL server) - cloud services are not an option because of Protected Health Information.

We shipped copy and pasting visuals between .pbix files in November. You can learn more about this feature here: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-desktop-november-2018-feature-summary/#copyPaste This is in addition to the copy data features we added in September: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-desktop-september-2018-feature-summary/#copy Note that you can get reports into PowerPoint using the export to PowerPoint feature, and if you want specific improvements make sure to vote on those ideas. If you want to copy an image to your clipboard instead of the actual visual so you can reuse it anywhere, make sure to vote on this idea: https://ideas.powerbi.com/forums/265200-power-bi-ideas/suggestions/11698812-copy-screenshot-of-visual-to-clipboard And you can vote on this idea for more copy data scenarios (such as whole table of data to clipboard) https://ideas.powerbi.com/forums/265200-power-bi-ideas/suggestions/6696392

Export to PowerPoint sends the entire report. Can we have the option to select what charts we want to export?

Copy and paste does not work even though your website advises to use Ctr + C. And I have seen loads of posts where people request this feature to be added but Microsoft has yet to do something about this.

'@Amanda Cofsky This is still not solved properly. You're limited to paste only 3000 cells, which is 300 rows for 10 columns. That's very little. Most other BI tools are able to paste as many as you want.

If your table has columns with the Total numbers in them, then : Right mouse click on the " Numbers (that are in a total line)" then "Copy Selection". Then, paste into Excel.

Do not click on the "WORD" that says Total, for some reasons it does not work for me.

RE: Copy/Paste from Power BI Desktop

This is marked completed but the answer is wrong. I have a whole table of data in Power BI that I need in Excel. If I export it, its not in table format - its in one row sorted in a way I cannot use. I just want to select an entire column or row of numbers and paste them into Excel (or other documents). Why is this so hard.

RE: Copy/Paste from Power BI Desktop

This is not even half-completed, e.g. One cannot copy/paste single cell value from a table. Some people in my company complains that they are paying money for beta-testing Power BI and I really can't argue with them if such basic functionality is missing.

RE: Copy/Paste from Power BI Desktop

Are there future plans to enhance copy/paste further? The "completed" solution is half baked in that it unpivots the matrix, on table visuals you have to export the data as there is no copy selection option that grabs the whole table, and it is difficult to tell what you have selected. Just not a very elegant solution at the moment

Our project team thought we made it to the promise land only find out integration with office/excel is poor or clunky at best. End users and report authors are frustrated by this even with the new update. Perhaps I am missing something but the copy/paste seemed to be released in previous update? Not sure why it is being included in the January update?

RE: Copy/Paste from Power BI Desktop

why not simply export the data ready for excel / powerpoint usage?

eg. a stacked bar chart should export as a table with columns as rows and categories as columns

This then allows us to use third party applications (we're not going to stop using power point plugins, sorry but third party graphs are simply better). Otherwise we need to do all our processing in the query editor, which is significantly less user-friendly

'@alexandre - I think you can already do that after you publish it?

What about "Copy all data" function? Selecting one by one is really time consuming and nearly impossible on large datasets. It would perfectly fit with "Copy data" and "Copy selection".

RE: Copy/Paste from Power BI Desktop

Need to copy Power BI visuals into an Outlook email the same way you can do this today with Excel. In Excel a copied line chart in Outlook will show data values as you hover your mouse over a line marker. Right now all we can do is screenshot a chart from Power BI and there's no ability to hover over markers. Displaying all the data values through labels will become extremely messy.
