I have created a composite model and published it to the service but having issues with other users seeing the data. Here is my current setup:

Workspace A:
PowerBI Dataset A

Workspace B:
Power BI Report A (composite model using the data below)
PowerBI Dataset A
Gateway access to 3 .csv files

Currently my users have view access on Workspace B. With this setup my users cannot see any data. I did some testing and the only way to get my users to be able to see the data in Power BI Report A was to either give them member access to Workspace A or to give them build access to PowerBI Dataset A.

Can we create the ability to keep their access as read only on the dataset.

Thanks - we are investigating to change this before GA of this feature.

Update 4/11/2023: this feature is now GA: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/announcing-general-availability-for-composite-models-on-power-bi-datasets-and-analysis-services-models/

Having to grant build access to users in order to use this feature is not reasonable. Hoping this will be updated to allow read only soon

Echoing the last two comments: as a firm using Pro subscriptions across our business, it is frustrating to have no sense of the timeline for GA.

Are there any updates on the planned availability for pro workspaces yet? After 7 months it would be good to have a brief status on this topic. Some of our customers are not able to use this great feature and are waiting for this change ever since the feature was introduced.https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/update-to-required-permissions-when-using-composite-models-on-a-power-bi-dataset/

Any update when this problem will be solved for Pro users? This great feature is not useable at all if I need to give all end users build access in order to just see my reports.

Curious to know when this feature is scheduled for general availability. I couldn't find this particular feature in Release Wave 1 or 2 documentation either: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform-release-plan/2022wave1/Is this tracked or updated somewhere?

While this problem has been solved for premium workspaces it is still an important obstacle for pro users.https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/update-to-required-permissions-when-using-composite-models-on-a-power-bi-dataset/For one of our customers the need to assign build permission is currently preventing us from using the great feature at all. Is there any news when this will be coming for pro users as well?

I agree, we are stuck not using this feature due to the requirement of having to give build permissions. If this does not get fixed composite models are useless for us.

We've been waiting for this feature to be enhanced for a while. When will it be released? It's not make sense to grant user build permission to view the reports if leveraging composite model.

I want to add my voice to say that to get this implemented is very important for us too. Do we know if there is a timeline to get it?
