The timeline slicer (Custom Visualization) functions, but it is not a friendly tool. If I quickly want to select a "Start" and "End" date for a date range, it would be more helpful to have a popup calendar with an optional freeform text box for both the "Start" and "End" date ranges.

I'm very pleased to say we've shipped a much improved date slicer in the October release of PBI Desktop. More details are available here: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-desktop-october-feature-summary/#reportView Let us know what you think and please keep those suggestions coming! thanks!

Nope. We need a calendar to be able to select a single date. Nothing I've tried in PBI visuals lets me do that.
Don't throw the drop down at me until you scroll through 12 years of single dates to find the one you want. I can't even resort the drop down to at least give me the last date first.

How do i select a single Date if i want? Even we can do it but we have to select date in both boxes which is weird.

RE: Better Date Range filters

How do I set a max and min date on the slicer? I am slicing on a date that has dates from 2010 to 2015 but the slicer ranges back to 1900

RE: Better Date Range filters

Hi,

There still needs to be a slicer for single dates. I don't think this thread will get any attention since it's 'completed'. If you want this feature please vote for it here:

There should be a 'on' option for the calendar. Sometimes you want to return a single day of data, when this is the case the user either has to select the same date twice in the calendar, or has to select from a drop-down or a list. As you can imaging these options are not ideal for data that spans over a long period of time.

RE: Better Date Range filters

can we have an input date field (other than date picker) in power bi which automatically filters the reports for that week.

RE: Better Date Range filters

Another feature to add is selecting one single date. Now you have to select "Between" and pick the same date twice

Still not there. I like the one from the gallery (Timeline) as it is more intuitive and can range select from the bar. However, it does take up too much real-estate. If the selection bar did not resize, and one can set a default date selected, it would be the best time slicer available.
