Currently, Power BI _Service_ "Get Data" connector for Analysis Services only lists on-prem SSAS instances (provided, Data Gateway is configured), and connections to Azure AS can only be established from PBI Desktop, and via uploading a pbix file with that connection to Power BI Service.

RE: Allow connecting to Azure Analysis Services directly from Power BI Service

As a small company, we chose to use Azure Analysis Services instead of an on-premise setup only to discover that we can't connect directly from the online service. Considering the hype around pushing everything to cloud, its really surprising to see a key connectivity feature like this being over-looked. Looking forward to its introduction soon!

This is a greatly needed functionality to help in the adoption of real self-service bi with appropriate IT control

RE: Allow connecting to Azure Analysis Services directly from Power BI Service

I agree with James. We have invested in Azure Analysis Services (a fairly significant investment for a relatively small company), and our key use case (allowing users to connect to a corporate model on AAS) is not supported from 'Get Data' in Power BI. Considering the amazing progress Power BI has made in the past few years and the push to integrate Power BI to AAS, it is quite surprising that this use case is not supported. Let's vote this up, and get the change.

RE: Allow connecting to Azure Analysis Services directly from Power BI Service

I was fairly surprised/disappointed when I realised this functionality wasn't available, especially now that Azure Analysis Services is being pitched directly through the Power BI blog: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/getting-started-with-azure-analysis-services-webinar-sept-21/

Providing users with the ability to easily query governed corporate data in Azure Analysis Services models directly from the Power BI service would be of great value. The current method of using a pbix file to achieve this is really counter-intuitive: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/analysis-services/analysis-services-connect-pbi
