Thanks everyone for your feedback – We have just released a new Amazon Redshift connector with the Power BI Desktop July Update! This connector is currently in Preview and it allows users to Import data or create a DirectQuery report based on Amazon Redshift data. In future releases, this connector will also be supported in Power BI Service and Gateway for Refresh purposes. Stay tuned! Please take a look at the Update Announcement blog (https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-desktop-july-feature-summary/) and to this documentation article for more details: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/powerbi-desktop-connect-redshift/

RE: Add AWS Redshift data source

'@jonathan, yes the odbc driver from AWS does 'work'... but it will load the entire table, it doesn't 'link' to a table and create a new sql statement as you explore the data - like Tableau does ;-) even good old MS Access can create an ODBC 'linked' table

RE: Add AWS Redshift data source

This is a must. Not only is it a capability that strenghthens the PowerBI vs other tools conversation, but it also allows a stronger Azure vs AWS conversation because you can demonstrate the tools, gain buy in and then talk about how they could leverage other capabilities if they used Azure.

RE: Add AWS Redshift data source

and RDS ... connecting to db´s on AWS is an obvious way to take more market share and dramatically increase PBI user base

This, or at very least a clear ODBC string connectivity guide would be very valuable in letting proponents of the PBI solution sell it to organizations invested in AWS.
