We really love the new feature of 'Composite Models' in the Power BI July 2018 update! This enables us to join custom lists with DirectQuery sources.

It would also be beneficial if this would also work when connected to SSAS Tabular in DirectQuery.
This would stronlgy improve the enterprise features of Power BI.

The preview is underway: DirectQuery for Power BI datasets and Azure Analysis Services (preview) | Microsoft Power BI Blog | Microsoft Power BI. Please try it and provide feedback.

RE: Composite models when connected to AS models (PBI datasets and Azure Analysis Services)

Coming from Tableau where I used this feature (connecting to multiple datasets, both on a local drive or on Tableau server) in MANY scenarios, it was extremely helpful (consistency, consolidation, multiple copies of data sources, efficiency, etc.. etc..). As some mentioned already, it is a game changer indeed!

I read a few comments here and there like: "why do you need multiple datasets when you can create dashboards from multiple datasets?" or something along those lines. My response to these comments would be: If you are dealing with multiple and/or big data sources, you will appreciate this capability! Also, you just need to use this capability once and I'm quite certain the comments would be of a different tone.

So it goes without saying, I would love to see this feature and capability in Power BI.

This functionality would be a GREAT add and give us much more flexibility!

Its a huge limitation, struggle to see why power bi doesnt support microsofts own SSAS tabular.

This is still the ultimate goal, I saw this announcement....does anyone know if this can be extended to SSAS on-prem? Not Azure AS?

Definitely needs this feature to create a summary page
