We really love the new feature of 'Composite Models' in the Power BI July 2018 update! This enables us to join custom lists with DirectQuery sources.

It would also be beneficial if this would also work when connected to SSAS Tabular in DirectQuery.
This would stronlgy improve the enterprise features of Power BI.

The preview is underway: DirectQuery for Power BI datasets and Azure Analysis Services (preview) | Microsoft Power BI Blog | Microsoft Power BI. Please try it and provide feedback.

It would be useful to allow DAX variables to be defined at the report level when using a live connection. This is currently unavailable and would make common DAX patterns such as a rolling average simpler to implement, and also make code easier to follow.

When will we be able to blend data and create relationships between an Excel file or SharePoint lists and SSAS tabular data? This can only be done by importing data in PBI Desktop but this isn't feasible across millions of rows of data that refreshes weekly.

I am trying to connect 2 Live connections ( Analysis services Cube) but it seems i can only connect one at a time. Would it be possible to have 2 or more live connections pointing to different Cubes in different servers.

Azure SQL and Azure DW Direct Query datasources are great, and this is most probably the future. There is however a requirement for a real-time semantic model in the middle. For example, this will be great for: captions/translations, attribute order by, hierarchies, images, relationships defined outside of the db, ... And most importantly that could provide a multidimensional query language (MDX and/or DAX). It could be Tabular in Azure or it could an in-database semantic model like SAP HANA?

It would be of immense value if the feature "composite models" would also work with live connections to tabular models on SSAS.
For now it is just not usable in a lot of scenarios.

I often get requests that are derivates of already released reports, but require small tweaks, such as a new dimension to be added to answer. Being able to add composite table to a live data set connection would enable me to more effectively re-use my work, as I wouldn't have to start my project in an already complex pbix file. just a live connection, a look up table an a blank canvas.

Similar to another request that is posted, but this is specifically talking about composite models using a Power BI dataset

As a large enterprise we are trying to make live easier for our end users by building a set of enterprise models with pre-approved content. However we also have a number of business users who like to expand upon that with typically excel data sources.

There are a few main requirements:
- We want to have the central datasets in a central workspace and business users should be able to re-use them (this is coming)
- Row level security needs to be applied for the developers. We have a global report, typically developers at region level and end users and country level. Developers should only see their region
- Extra datasets need to be added. At the start an excel file will do since most business users tend to use that

More than happy to do a call and expand upon this. For now we have 800 power bi users and growing fast within the company

It will be fantastic if PowerBi allow us to Connecting to multiple data sources with IMPORT and Connection live in the same powerbi file. I need to do a Connection live using a CUBe and also import some excel table and today PowerBi is not support this. thanks.Miriam

Would be super if we could combine extra data with our Enterprise Multidimensional cubes
