When an App is Published that is using a Shared Dataset (i.e. the reports use a dataset from a different workspace) then the permissions on the dataset are NOT updated in the same way that the Dataset permissions are updated if it is not shared (i.e. the reports use a dataset in the same workspace).

I have raised a service call (119101822000424) and been told this behaviour is by design.

Can we either change this so that the permissions are updated (preferred approach) or at least put a warning up when publishing the App to say the dataset permissions need to be manually updated.

As of today, (10-30-2020), I had this happen as well. To further add frustration, the report was simply "greyed out". It didn't even tell the user anything useful such as, "you do not have access to the underlying dataset of this report".

At least something like that would help to give an idea of what changes need to be put in place.

But I completely agree that just automating this access, or giving an option / warning to assign access when the report is deployed, would be really great.

Or if another way is to provide access depending on the administrator of the workspaces. If the administrator/owner of the workspaces is the same the permissions could automatically be given...
