Power BI is a great tool for Data visualization but not the best for List/Print Reporting.

Paginated Reports are good but are not suited for End Users.

In order to have an easy way to allow End users to create List/Print Reports on their own I believe Microsoft Word is a great tool for the purpose.

The solution would be the following:
- Use the XML Mapping functionality in Microsoft Word in order to connect to a Power BI Data Source.
- Use the smart tags in order to allow the user to select the data data it wants.

Microsoft Dynamics NAV/Business Central uses this functionality and it works well enough.
I share an example of the functionality in action :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtTrnDwRvnQ

It seems it would be a good solution for End user List/Print Reporting.

RE: Power BI as a Data Source for Microsoft Word

Absolutely. We've just got our doctors using Word online and they are liking the ability to collaborate on the same document. As far as getting them to open Power BI and edit text in there it's a big ask. It's not unusual for healthcare professionals to check their emails a couple of times a week, know how to use Word and a bit of Excel. This is because they are too busy navigating 2 different clinical EMR systems, immunisation reporting systems, disease monitoring systems and caring for their patients to have time to learn yet another system to report to the director on what their service has been contributing to the KPIs and strategies. If we give them a Word template online with most of the data filled in, they can review it, edit a paragraph to highlight the main points e.g education they've delivered, what they've done to manage a particular disease outbreak and job done. Please, please let me connect to my lovingly-curated measures and KPIs in my Power BI dataset from Word and pull in values into the tables and text. It would complete the picture.
