Creating a live connection to SSAS MD or Tabular is working just fine. However, it would be very beneficial to have the ability to create new calculated measures (in MDX). Just like we can create our own calculated measures when writing an MDX query for a SSRS dataset.

Hi everyone! I'm really excited to announce that you can now create calculated measures on top of a live SSAS connection! The measures are stored in your report definition and sent along with the queries to your model. You can read more information about that here https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-desktop-may-feature-summary/. We're planning support for quick measures in this mode soon, and also looking at expanding this further based on your feedback: - If you want calculated columns/tables you can vote here https://ideas.powerbi.com/forums/265200-power-bi-ideas/suggestions/19140907-create-calculated-columns-when-using-ssas-live-con - If you want support over SSAS Multidimensional, vote here https://ideas.powerbi.com/forums/265200-power-bi-ideas/suggestions/19140997-calculated-measures-when-live-connected-to-mdx-cub Thanks everyone!

Under review since June... any progress? We have numerous active projects running Power BI and mobile reports against on-prem SSAS. Would be happy to assist with testing

Really need this functionality at Philips Medical. Almost all of our cube solutions are built with mdx olap. We should have the ability to build custom calcs at the reporting layer and not the cube layer, as the need for custom calcs comes up in almost every reporting request we get. I know it is difficult since Power BI is built on DAX, but please put this to the forefront. It's a major show stopper without it. Thank you for your consideration.

This is the functionality that ProClarity has 15 or more years ago. We need it for end users. Why there is an issue to add MDX Editor to PowerBI.

totally agree. Sometimes we just want to see some possible trend changes on certain products, it would be nice to be able to create additional measures without asking IT people to do it.

even with Excel ootb connecting to ssas you can create new MDX measures on the fly...would be absolut essential to have this ability also with PBI otherwise the Self Service bi Story fails

Please please pretty please add this feature. Any enterprise sized solution will not work without SSAS and this is a must have for users.
