Creating a live connection to SSAS MD or Tabular is working just fine. However, it would be very beneficial to have the ability to create new calculated measures (in MDX). Just like we can create our own calculated measures when writing an MDX query for a SSRS dataset.

Hi everyone! I'm really excited to announce that you can now create calculated measures on top of a live SSAS connection! The measures are stored in your report definition and sent along with the queries to your model. You can read more information about that here https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-desktop-may-feature-summary/. We're planning support for quick measures in this mode soon, and also looking at expanding this further based on your feedback: - If you want calculated columns/tables you can vote here https://ideas.powerbi.com/forums/265200-power-bi-ideas/suggestions/19140907-create-calculated-columns-when-using-ssas-live-con - If you want support over SSAS Multidimensional, vote here https://ideas.powerbi.com/forums/265200-power-bi-ideas/suggestions/19140997-calculated-measures-when-live-connected-to-mdx-cub Thanks everyone!

Absolutely needed ASAP - This is a make or break feature for us to use Power BI against our existing cubes, as well as moving forward. PLEASE update when/if this will be released. Thanks!

RE: Create calculated measures on top of a live SSAS connection

We need this for Multidimensional yes or yes... the current status of the Multidimensional functionalities in Power BI is quite limited... we need formatting, calculated measures, being able to connect live using mdx select statements, etc.

Hello Will Thompson,

Can you update the community on when this feature will be released, even if you can only give us a broad time frame. Many of us need to set expectations with our self-service business users regarding when this feature will be released.

Thank You,

Chris Miller

RE: Create calculated measures on top of a live SSAS connection

I'm frustrated that none of my DAX expressions are not allowed with DirectQuery.

RE: Create calculated measures on top of a live SSAS connection

It is frustrating that so many features get disabled with a Live Connection to SSAS. What are the plans for the Live Connection mode. Will we see functions like Quick Calcs, Grouping, Binning, Renaming columns etc make their way into the live connection mode?
