Creating a live connection to SSAS MD or Tabular is working just fine. However, it would be very beneficial to have the ability to create new calculated measures (in MDX). Just like we can create our own calculated measures when writing an MDX query for a SSRS dataset.

Hi everyone! I'm really excited to announce that you can now create calculated measures on top of a live SSAS connection! The measures are stored in your report definition and sent along with the queries to your model. You can read more information about that here https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-desktop-may-feature-summary/. We're planning support for quick measures in this mode soon, and also looking at expanding this further based on your feedback: - If you want calculated columns/tables you can vote here https://ideas.powerbi.com/forums/265200-power-bi-ideas/suggestions/19140907-create-calculated-columns-when-using-ssas-live-con - If you want support over SSAS Multidimensional, vote here https://ideas.powerbi.com/forums/265200-power-bi-ideas/suggestions/19140997-calculated-measures-when-live-connected-to-mdx-cub Thanks everyone!

Why not do this for Multidimensional and then close the idea?
Is calculated measures on SSAS Multidimensional scheduled for June or a future month?
RE: Create calculated measures on top of a live SSAS connection
Wow.. this is amazing. Please add this for Multi Dimensional Cubes too. We would love to have this. I am sure, reports have more power to show with live connection.
Cant Wait to See this!!!

Fantastic - also please add the future to support MultiDimensional as well.

Check out what Will's dev team delivered this month!

Report level measures for live connections to Analysis Services tabular models & Power BI service datasets
If you are creating a live connection to a tabular Analysis Services server or a Power BI service dataset, you can now create new measures using DAX. These measures will not be part of the model. However, they will behave just like measures defined in imported models, meaning you can set their data type and formatting, see error messages when you break the measure expression, and use intellisense when editing the expressions. Also, they can be used in reports published to the Power BI service and used in visuals pinned to dashboards. You create them in just the same way as you would for an imported model, from the New Measure button in the ribbon, or by right clicking in the field list. We currently only support report measures a live connection against Analysis Services Tabular models. You won’t be able to create measures when connected to Multidimensional cubes, but we’ll consider this for a future release based on your feedback.

Please add the ability to create MDX calculations (SSAS Multidimensional) in a report like we can do in Excel and SSRS. It's very important to use

This will be very useful for user to create custom measures for their reports. Hopefully this will be available in next release.

Yes, please bring this update for SSAS connection very Soon. Many enterprises uses multi dimensional models. Developing this feature for tabular models doesn't help. Make Multi Dimensional task as a priority. Company I work for is not satisfied without this option. They say, Power BI is not for large data models. I am almost convinced with them and opting for tableau or IBM congnos
RE: Create calculated measures on top of a live SSAS connection
I must agree with many others: this is absolutely a much-have feature for using Power BI on multi-dimensional models. Many customers are excited about Power BI but want to leverage the investment they made in the development of their cube-based data-warehouse and enable in-company data-analysts to make ad-hoc reports that require the flexibility of custom-measures without having to extend the cube-model.
Without features like this for live-connections to multi-dimensional models many don’t see the point in switching from Excel

Thank God! that's great news!

please don't forget calculated measures on top of a live SSAS MD, this is still a massive user base that would take advantage of PBI
