It would be great if Grand Totals on a Matrix or Table would add up correctly to the sum of the rows when you include MEASURES in the visual. Currently the total on a measure consists of the measure function itself, instead of the sum of the rows above. PLEASE give us the option to toggle totals to be a simple aggregate of the rows above also.

Moving this idea to "under review" to mark that discussions are underway. For full transparency, we have started working on DAX calculations at the visual level. That feature will make changes that will serve as building blocks for other features, including but not limited to the one discussed in this idea: providing more flexibility for influencing what is shown on the total: the visual total, the "DAX" total, or another expression altogether.

Hence, the delivery of this Idea will be dependent on the DAX-calculations-on-a-visual feature.

RE: Matrix/Table grand totals with Measures

Wait, how is this still an outstanding issue from 2016?

Microsoft, can you please correct how the total is calculated for the Matrix & Tables Visualizations. Please, having accurate numbers is essential for reporting....

RE: Matrix/Table grand totals with Measures

Happens in both table and matrix visuals, totals and subtotals have incorrect calculation.

Total Mode

1. No Total
2. Expression Total
3. Sum of rows

Maybe the third option can be a dropdown where we can choose Sum/Avg/Min/Max etc

RE: Matrix/Table grand totals with Measures

Why does this happen, Is there a reasonable explanation for it? How can we work around this? Is there any point in using a tool if the results are showing incorrectly. I've spent so long thinking my model was incorrect and changing it until i came across this on the web.

RE: Matrix/Table grand totals with Measures

Please give an option to display the total result of the formula or the sum of the row values!

RE: Matrix/Table grand totals with Measures

it's too misleading, now not sure if I need to go back verify every detail in a very complicated model

RE: Matrix/Table grand totals with Measures

I'd like to have better control over how the total row calculates each column in a table. For examples, sometimes I might want the value to be "Don't Summarize" for each row but I want the "Total" row to have the sum of all values. Right now, if set to "Don't Summarize", it doesn't show any total. Similarly, I'd like to be able to set how I want a measure aggregated in the "Total" column. Right now, it seems to use the same functions used in the measure for the total calculation which isn't always what I want. Here's an example use-case: https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Desktop/Change-the-way-total-of-column-is-displayed/m-p/718776 Someone gave me a complicated way to achieve what I want but it seems like it should be so much simpler than this!

RE: Matrix/Table grand totals with Measures

As well as the ability to turn off an aggregation at a particular level. Like if I want a sum at a certain group level, but at the Grand Total level, the aggregation is meaningless/confusing.

Measure isn't giving total correctly(out of expectation)

RE: Matrix/Table grand totals with Measures

We need this so bad. we have so many tabular reports and they can easily have 20 to 30 columns. When you have so many columns it's hard to track Sub totals in Matrix.
