The timeline slicer (Custom Visualization) functions, but it is not a friendly tool. If I quickly want to select a "Start" and "End" date for a date range, it would be more helpful to have a popup calendar with an optional freeform text box for both the "Start" and "End" date ranges.

I'm very pleased to say we've shipped a much improved date slicer in the October release of PBI Desktop. More details are available here: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-desktop-october-feature-summary/#reportView Let us know what you think and please keep those suggestions coming! thanks!

RE: Better Date Range filters
Thanks for this idea! We're looking into what we can do to improve the usability and will get back on our plan soon.
Cheers,

RE: Better Date Range filters
I would like to second the proposal for "TODAY" or "THIS WEEK" or "THIS MONTH" quick selection options as something that would be extremely helpful. This would greatly reduce the amount of daily updating that would be required for each dashboard. Thanks!
RE: Better Date Range filters
If I'm looking at a month by month I want an option
to show only FULL months rather including the current month which shows a drop if midway through. Also I want to show, predefined dates. Eg this week, last week, this month, last month. Also an easier way to do DoD, WoW, MoM and YoY %changes. Yes we can do it but it needs to be more intuitive.

Extremely helpful, current date slicers are virtually impossible to format with a date range over a year turn without extreme customization.

not only dates, but up to the fraction of the second
RE: Better Date Range filters
This would be a great feature!!
RE: Better Date Range filters
The ability to look at, today, yesterday, this week, last week, last month, this quarter (ability to define), last quarter, this year, last year.
RE: Better Date Range filters
Also the ability to define a range with the last FULL day, week, month, quarter, year etc. This would be continuously rolling so that part weeks/months/quarters/years do not show.
