I am very surprised that it is not possible to set column widths to a "fixed" width...like in Excel or even Google Sheets for gosh sakes!! (Even early Lotus 123.) Select a series of columns--drag the width, have them remain fixed (REGARDLESS) of the data in them...It's an broadly accepted and essential UI feature of spread sheets and tables.
As it is, each potential value has to have it's column width set one-by-one (!!!) for every table or matrix that uses that data for column headings!!
I really don't know why that columns sizing UI design is considered a good idea, unless you only see months in the headers or some simple thing like that. That's not my world, for sure!! What an impossible situation to make things look good and readable.
Why is that considered the only use case appropriate for matrices or tables??
And that doesn't get to the other column width ideas and issues...I really think it deserves an important look and dev time.

The New Matrix takes away the previously available ability to set all Matrix columns to a standard width. Now, you can set each column heading to a width that will track that column's location...but with 5000 different potential columns...clearly that's not a workable solution.
The idea of having 5000 potential columns is NOT an edge case...it's an important use case of the Matrix visual. (Think distributors with many customers to display side by side...or products side by side...etc. The list goes on and on). So clearly removing the ability to set widths was ill-considered imo. Please restore this capability.
The column resizing is really not working. Here is a video of conversion of an old matrix with columns sized properly (auto size off) to a new Matrix. I originally sent it to Enos1978 so ignore that I'm talking to "Seth"...he suggested I post it here. This is to in a drop box folder and is an .mp4 made using Snagit. It does tell the tale without much ambiguity. Any Microsoft comments on this? Is there some other place to post?
This is especially true since sliding the column adjusters do not "stick" with the new matrix visuals.
If you were at our Microsoft Business Applications Summit, you might have seen Amir and Will demo this feature! We are actively developing it now, and while we do have some more work today before it releases, the release isn’t too far off in the future. You can watch the session they demoed it in here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/businessapplicationssummit/video/BAS2018-204
This really is useful and won't get the votes because it is a seemingly simple tweak versus a huge new feature. That said it is a significant visual enhancer AND the effort to complete would be small...
Here here!! I have 600+ measures in my staging model and it's very difficult to debug at this point.
