    Sorting waterfall graph by breakdown

I have a waterfall with a start and end value, with breakdown values in between. The waterfall breakdown variables are by deafault sorted from smallest to largest. However, we are used to seeing the breakdowns in a specific order, like a P&L order (Volume, revenue, cogs, sg&a, etc). It makes it almost useless to have the categories in a different order. Can you please include a feature to be able to sort by the breakdown column sorting field, or make it optional to sort by value or by the category index in the breakdown field.

It would really be very useful, even when you want to compare a start and end value by month variance, it makes no sence to have the months ordered from smallest to largest instead of by month order.

Please help out with this! We really need it.

    Sort by breakdown in Waterfall

Waterfall in July 2017 update is cool. But it is looking really weird when the breakdown dimension is a period (ie. months that have a natural order). It would be great if the chart could be sorted by Breakdown dimension. On the example of months, we will be able to see the variation between 2 years by month in the right natural order (Jan, Feb, Mar, ...) instead of by value variation that is dificult to interprete More details here: https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Issues/Sorting-on-breakdown-attribue-of-waterfall-chart-not-working/idc-p/349280#M21430

    Sorting Breakdown in Waterfall Chart

I am currently trying to compare actuals to budget using a waterfall chart in powerbi. I was able to get the start and end values in the categories and the different steps in the breakdown, but I am not able to sort by the breakdown. In the breakdown I currently have Price, COGS, Revenue, etc and I am used to having it in a specific order, but PowerBI sorts it by value. I would like to be able to sort by breakdown field.

Waterfall : Sort the Waterfall Breakdown by other Measures

Waterfall in July 2017 update is awesome. Would be great to be able to Sort the Breakdown based on another measures such as the actual value, instead of the breakdown value, or some other measure, like percent change. Would be great to show additional labels for those measures. I do all of this in Tableau today, and I think Power BI could be even better.

Sorting of data fields for waterfalls and stacked graphs.

Power BI sorts my x-axis labels automatically / alphabetically instead sticking to my order for waterfall and stacked graphs. Rather allow the user to have options on to use Power BI's default settings or to customise this based on the user's preferences.

Support ordering of breakdown elements within waterfall

The default waterfall diagram orders the effects according to their value rather than by the sort of the breakdown elements.

In reporting it is sometimes required to have the same order of breakdowns in all categories.

The same request has come up multiple times over the last years, e.g.:

    • Solved: Waterfall chart Breakdown custom sort - Microsoft Fabric Community
    • Solved: Waterfall chart - change breakdown order - Microsoft Fabric Community
    • Waterfall Chart - Sorting by Breakdown - Microsoft Fabric Community

Many custom waterfalls have been created because of this limitation. Please add this feature to the default chart!

To develop manual sorting in graphs

There is a possibility of sorting in alphabetical order or in ascending / descending order. But almost every day manual sorting is required. For example, we have a certain order of budget items. We need to create a waterfall graph according to the budgetary order of the articles. In this case, you need manual sorting of course. Please, create such feature. To use the exsisting sorts is inconvenient and the graphics are not informative.

    Waterfall Chart features

We'd need the following features for the Waterfall chart 1. Ability to have 3 measures in it: starting point, ending point and the gaps in between 2. the ability to sort the gaps from biggest increase to smallest increase, then from bigger decrease to smaller decrease (it should probably be the default setting) 3. the ability to "regroup" some of the Gaps (all the small ones in the event where you would be looking at many of them making the chart too busy) into a dummy gap named "Other" (named could be customized). The number of increases and decreases to consider before regrouping the rest into the "other" category could be manually picked by the User or automatically done by the chart to keep the layout nice and not too busy
