The ability to display and create Filled Maps (choropleth) using the native SQL Server geometry/geography data types is a must to allow for meaningful geospatial visualization. e.g. Visualize crimes by police beat.

Such a shame Microsoft is faaaaaaaaar behind their competitors in reporting based on maps! What good is that I can store spatial data in SQL Server database if I cannot visualize it properly in a Power BI? This is so often a requirement! To give some business example: a report for property investors showing a circle with a given radius (in meters, individual for each point) supporting decisions if the area is attractive for investments. Drawing spatials on map is not the only required feature. Search capabilities, free hand selection and information about missing points (not recognized points) are MUST HAVE features too. Please, Power BI Team, give us a chance to compete with other BI leaders whenever maps are a part of report!

I come from a public office which is considering to use Power BI. This was THE feature we needed, and wil choose Tableau instead, as it has "native" support for the SQL geography.
It's a shame because we use the Office 365 suit, and would have preferred to keep using it.
We would reconsider using Tableu if we had this option.

We have a massive data store of geospatial data. Some in MSSQL but all accessible by OGC standard web services (WKT, WMS, WFS, etc).

It's unremarkable that nothing has been done to support Microsoft standard data sets but extremely disappointing that this has been hanging wrounf like a bad smell for 3 years and no updates.

I support this. I have multi polygon defined by lat / long data and need to plot these outlines to which I can add layers of other values.
