Row-level security enabled by roles for datasets feature released in March 2016. is great but a manual process. It should be enabled via Rest API too. That would allow synchronization of user roles with custom applications automatically.

Thanks for the feedback. We're discussing this internally and once we have an update we'll circle back. We definitely wanted to start by making sure that we got the feature rock solid and then we'll move into providing other ways of managing/configuring this!

Any update on this? How do you bump this requirement?
This is a major issue for us as ISV in multi-tenant environment. This has been flagged in 2016 already, Disappointing there's been no feedback from MS, we might just sway to drop Power BI and go with another analytics vendor.

The lack of this feature ended up being a deal breaker for a project I was working on. The manual process is just not secure/reliable in a multi tenant environment.

I have a large number of roles to meet our security requirements and it's very painful to manually manage them

Any update on this? The REST API's allows you to do most other things (however mundane some of it is) this is a potential blocker for us using PowerBI embedded with controlling role access. This idea was raised in 2016!

I was manually tracking this for a client and had a whole process built around it. This has to have an automated tool otherwise mistakes are made and data is exposed. Would love to see it implemented!

This would save us a lot of operational pain, add value to to Power BI running in an ISV app, and just generally needs to be a thing

Insane this isn’t available. I guess we have to manually track all of this in its own table just to keep up with the changes users are requesting.
