The advanced settings for some data sources do not save and display correctly in the Power BI Online gateway UI.

E.g. the Snowflake data source has the following advanced settings:

  • Role Name
  • Connection Timeout
  • Command Timeout

These values are used during data refreshes, yet when I go back to view a previously created data source in the Gateway UI, these values are displayed as blank. They are saved and work during data refreshes but are displayed as blank in the UI.

Role name in particular is very important for Snowflake so this behaviour makes it impossible to properly check/support/debug gateway connection issues.

Unfortunately (and laughably) Microsoft have said this is by design - whereas from any common sense perspective it is clearly a bug. I have been told I need to raise this as an idea - which is a novel approach to bug fixing, but anyway - here we are. Please vote for this bug to be fixed...
