Matrix: conditional formatting per row in matrix

Currently, conditional formatting in matrix is based on all values of the matrix. I am looking forward to have it based on individual rows (a feature already available in Excel)

Consider having monthly data (column) which you want to track for multiple categories (rows). But the categories have completely different values (i.e. some rows with $10 on average and some rows with $1000 on average).
By applying conditional formatting per row, you can track trends/behaviour per individual category.

Now the row with the highest values ($1000 row in above example) will typically steal all the highlights, and not allow you to see any color changes in rows which have much lower values (yet can still have trends)

The only current "trick" is to transform the data as a percentage of row total (%). However, then you can still face problems if you have some outliers in a specific row.

RE: Matrix: conditional formatting per row in matrix

Currently you can wrap all the measures into a single 'magic measure' which uses a switch statement and a disconnected 'column dimension' table to control which measures go into which columns. Then use the 'Magic Measure' to apply conditional formatting to each row. This avoids having to apply conditional formatting separately to each column value. - You will also need a separate measure that drives conditional formatting, if you want to do anything other than colour range formatting, e.g. KPI, or highlight specific rows with an indicator / boolean measure.

RE: Matrix: conditional formatting per row in matrix

I agree, conditional formatting based on any criteria (not just values) would be very helpful. For example, I have a table with a column flag of "Late" (for customer deliveries). I'd like to highlight each of these rows as RED, so they jump off the page.

This is a very good idea and we request Microsoft team to implement this as soon as possible. Sometimes it is vital to show individuals that they are above or low of a specific value.

RE: Matrix: conditional formatting per row in matrix

Hi, can we please have this functionality where a user can change the formatting (change colour/bold/italics) a single row of choice in a Matrix visual. Conditional formatting as mentioned allows user to highlight rows based on values. But we require the ability to format a row of choice. Thank you

RE: Matrix: conditional formatting per row in matrix

Needed as part of general 'parity with Excel formatting'. Please implement soon as data tables are currently a 'sea of numbers' if multiple metrics are needed in same table/matrix.
