Shapes as visual grouping containers

I often use rectangle shapes as visual containers on a page. This is clunky and cumbersome for a few reasons. Like Word or SSRS, it would be absolutely fantastic to have a true container object for visuals. The following enhancements would improve the current experience, using a rectangle as a visual container:
Allow the background color to fill the entire shape. There is currently a border margin that gets proportionally resized and this makes it difficult to align different sized shapes.
Allow the shape to be anchored to the back so it doesn't obscure objects in front of it when selected. It's difficult to select stacked visuals that are the same size or smaller than others. Perhaps enable Tab to cycle through objects like you can in SSRS and most other Microsoft applications.
