It would be extremely useful to be able to automatically color horizontal (or even vertical) background bands of a chart by some arbitrary criteria. For example, In a time-based chart it may be desirable to use a different background for the weekend days. One way to do this might be to introduce a background color field for the axis.

Worth noting you can get a slightly clumsy version of this by using a combined line/chart column and then using the column series to 'paint' the background although you are limited to a single colour.
