Currently we can choose the default Edit Interactions method (enable, disable) that applies to new visuals. But we need a way to clear the setting from existing visuals that have previously had interactions set. This is particularly important when we have dashboards that have become more sophisticated over time, meaning we have possibly reached a crossover point at which we wish to switch from enable to disable for ALL visuals, including existing visuals that have already had an interaction set manually.

RE: Clear Edit Interactions settings for ONE or ALL existing visuals back to default setting.

Have the ability to flip between "the visual selected affects the other visuals" and "the visual selected is affected by the other visuals". The former is current but I think the latter should have been default (the visual selected is the one that gets changed).

This could all be solved by having another tab in the 'Selection Pane'. So in addition to 'Layer Order' and 'Tab Order' you could have 'Interactions'. I've done a quick mock up below

This would be easy to use. Also Ed Hansberry in the comments suggested that "The edit interaction choice should always show all available options regardless of visual size". This would solve that issue.

I've added a default interaction section as well. So when new visual added it will automatically will know to interact with the visuals already there.

So many things to improve around Edit Interactions. At a minimum:

  • edit interaction choice (crossfilter/crosshighlight/no interaction) should not show up for items where it isn't relevant, like images and shapes.

  • The edit interaction choice should always show all available options regardless of visual size. I've had Cards so small that I had to change their size temporarily just to get both Filter/No Interaction buttons to show up.

  • I shouldn't have to hide visuals to make the edit interaction choice clickable for a visual that is lower in the layers. the Edit Interaction choice should float to the top when I hover over it, or something.
