I am also facing the same issue... I am sure a lot of company wants a dashboard off of a locked spreadsheets... Especially from Sharepoint and OneDrive... Like ask for a password before open/edit.
I landed here after a very quick search for 'Power BI password protected Excel'. I cannot believe this is a thing! Surely there should be a way to enter the password in Power BI and convey it securely to the Excel workbook. Needs implementing!
As Excel and PowerBI are from the same company, it should be possible to have a field for "Password", so PowerBI could via API or something similar pass the required code.

This is a needed feature. If you have the password it should be an option to enter it upon connection, similar to connecting to SQL or any other authenticated connection
Absolutely essential! This is the pain of my life right now...
This would be super good if this functionality is available in Power Query.
This is the worst thing I have encountered that I can not open a password protected file with Power Query.
It is really a crucial need, and if it was applied on all types of protected file types that would be a very important addition to the Power BI desktop, and of course at first the password should be available to be provided.
Yes please!
Within the corporate environment, this is definitely needed.
This feature is badly needed!
