It would be great if we can connect or open the password protected excel workbook inside Power BI Desktop. Of course we should know & provide the password first.

I somewhat expect to have issues connecting to Salesforce or other non-Microsoft products. But it unbelievable to me that we cannot connect to excel files if they have a password or if they are .xlsb. How was this missed?

Would really like to have this available in Power BI Dataflow to be able to read password protected Excel

This seems pretty basic and pretty essential. Need to have the ability to prevent people from changing data in excel, but still access it for report building and auto-refresh. Especially since these are both microsoft tools.

My company just made it compulsory to mark all files in Office 365 with Confidential and as a effect this encrypts the file (similar to password protection). Now our finance teams can either comply with the measure and break Power Query (for Power BI or Excel) or mislabel workbooks. The sooner this one can be solved the better!

Please implement this feature asap, it is very important to encrypt confidential data but at the same time we need to be able to use these data for analysis.

It would be very important to me to add this functionnality to Power Query. I needed to remove password from all my files to be able to use PQ on them...
