In Excel we can select either Currency or Accounting formatting. In Power BI only Currency is currently available.
Using custom format strings isn't currently an option for achieving the Accounting format, because in Excel we would use a * to left align the currency symbol, and the value would right align in the column.
$* #,##0.00
In Power BI however, the * represents that the format will reflect the date and time settings of your operating system, and so we can't use it.
Either we need an option to display the Currency symbol on the left in the visuals, or as a format for the measure, or pair another character for the custom format string.
This will help the accountants of the world feel at home when they look at P&L data in Power BI.
