If you could give readers of a report or dashboard the opportunity to comment on the figures they see, it would add enormous value.

Thanks everyone for your support and votes! We’re working on enabling commenting for dashboards and reports in the Power BI service in H1.

RE: Commentary option

As a better addition to your existing reports you can always create a PowerApp that feeds/reads data into your Power BI reports and sits right on top of your Power BI Report, this will open up the options of functionality tremendously and in my experience has been very very useful. Also, a work around is to use the PowerBI (Preview) for SharePoint where users can comment and also like the report content.

RE: Commentary option

Thinking it would be great to be able to preset a table for accepting the inputted fields. So the table has the fields to be recorded and then by using a function similar to drill through allows you to add input to fields with the other fields drawn from the table chart cell selected when opening the store commentary function.
Ie chart shows sales variance to last year by customer by product category. You select customer ABC a category PENS. Variance $500. Then select store commentary a simple form is shown with the fields pre populated for customer product category variance $500. With non populated fields available for entering data text according to field properties. Reporting is based setting up reporting. Or an option to show matching comments. This way you should then be able to show the top x relative comments on report levels up from where the comments are stored.

RE: Commentary option

This would be huge, especially if comments on data points could be fed back to the data source and/or become a new data source correlated to the original data and in turn reportable in Power BI!

RE: Commentary option

'+1000. Been asked today again if commenting on reports was possible - this would add so much value.

RE: Commentary option

This feature is what I believe will close the performance management loop missing from most BI platforms. Management meetings will be vastly improved if strategic KPI's are discussed and actions are agreed related to the performance noticed in the visual. As chair of this meeting I can then call up a list of actions and see how they related to past performance and then relate action to improved performance manifested on the visual in the following months. This is a closed loop management tool - which will be very valuable to a lot of people...
