Currently, Power BI lacks integrated support for fiscal years. When compared with products like Tableau, this places Power BI at a considerable disadvantage for organizations that rely on a fiscal year. While it is possible to create a date table through DAX, query, or a few other ways, any approach that is used is limited to one row per day and excludes "Time" intelligence for those that need to do calculations based on hours, seconds, or portions of days.

Power BI's date table should be updated to include support for the fiscal year (as set by the user to allow for different fiscal years across organizations). This behavior should continue to support the calendar year but be expanded to include the fiscal year and should be configurable down to the individual visualization, page, report, or dashboard to allow for the most flexibility. For example, having one visualization tied to a calendar year hierarchy while another is configured for a fiscal year.

In addition to integrated support, the ability of the user to create a date table that operates at the second interval would provide more flexibility to the developer to define unique options. Instead of limiting one date field per table to access this custom date table, all date fields should be able to utilize the user-generated date table.
