Dragging a hierarchy into a report and change it to slicer... can we get a slicer with hierarchy (collapsible/expandable)?

With the June release of Power BI Desktop we've made this feature generally available. Thanks for voting and giving us feedback!

RE: Slicer Hierarchy

The new slicer has a rather awkward backward compatibility. We have many reports that use a single lower level of various hierarchies. It was not possible to choose the lower levels until we recognized this update was released. We found had to enable preview features and then it would work , though it required extra clicks to add the hierarchy then toggle off the levels not desired. Perhaps when it released it will use a separate visual? Or even better play well with already created single level from hierarchy slicers .

RE: Slicer Hierarchy

Hi ,

We found one more bug. Say if we have a date hierarchy where Year - 2020 & Month is Jan,feb, mar . Then if we sort on Year as descending, it should sort the month as well but it sorts Month Alphabetically which isn't correct.

RE: Slicer Hierarchy

I would like to see an option to set the indentation of the sublevels (eg by the number of pixel). I do agree with previous comments, that the visual is getting too wide with several sub-levels. Making the indentation flexible would overcome this issue.

RE: Slicer Hierarchy

Chevron is too big indeed as per other comments. Nodes also take way up too much space horizontally when expanded. Also the slicer is quite buggy - doesn't always work - in my case it only does when I convert a data table to this slicer. Not when I simply drag a hierarchy over to the slicer. Also when trying to collapse nodes I get render errors.

Build some hierarchy and compare your slicer to generally very good HierarchySlicer - much better design and overall experience etc.

RE: Slicer Hierarchy

This is one of the most expected features & we are happy about that but I think there is bug
For example if we have Year -> Month -> Week ending dates,
The sort order doesn't work properly. IF we set Sorting on Week Ending date & order as descending it shows 2014 first & 2020 at the bottom whereas it should sort the year in descending order as well as its a hierarchy & week is the lowest level . This was working fine with the existing Custom Hierarchy Slicer
For now we have to sort of year but month ,week would be showed in ascending order which business won't agree. Could we check this bug

RE: Slicer Hierarchy

My opinion: The new slicer looks ok but it takes then too much place in the width and in the height if we expand it (i.e. Continent, Countries, Provinces, Cities)
To make it more slim, perhaps playing with the colour and the form would help.

RE: Slicer Hierarchy

My opinion.
Slicer header has no field to enter a title. Chevron is too big for me. The single selection icon looks weird :)

RE: Slicer Hierarchy

The preview version of Feb2020 does not work right in case of "single select". I want to force to select one item of the lowest hierarchical level. But when user selects an item in the top level, all items on lowest level will and can be selected. Please fix this.

RE: Slicer Hierarchy

Can we please add the ability to customise the text that appears in the Slicer header?

By default, the new hierarchical slicer just separates the items in the hierarchy with commas, which is really not ideal when dealing with a hierarchy with lots of levels.
