The ability to provide specify the Data Colour for each item in the Legend field. E.g. a column from the data source in which to specify the colour e.g. #A66999 for each item in the Legend field.

This would apply to all the standard charts, e.g. bar, column, line chart, any of the charts with the Legend property.

Near the end of last year we upgrade visuals to use conditional formatting just like tables. This means you can take advantage of "By field" formatting to do exactly what this idea requested. Create a field in your model assigning colors, and then use the conditional formatting dialog for colors to format it. Here's the original announcement post. Do note that the UI has changed some in recent months, but the functionality is the same: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/blog/power-bi-desktop-november-2018-feature-summary/#conditionalFormatting

we need to be able to color code without using a url to a color chip on a shared server somewhere, which has proven unreliable.

Any updates regarding this functionality? There are other "Ideas" out there that are specific to implementing dynamic conditional formatting throughout PowerBI. However, this is the only one marked as "Under Review". Allowing a dax statement or a field value ([fontcolor], [cellcolor], etc.) in the visual configs would take this product to the next level in creating custom dashboards and scorecards.

Yep, would be very useful - I output color data from my other tools (simulation, 3D and CAD) and would want this to flow into my charts in PowerBI, particularly in embedded applications, it needs to be seamless.

This would be a very useful feature, particularly when Power BI is embedded in another application. It would allow colour formatting information to pass from the host application to a Power BI chart so that the colour used to display the series matches a colour in the host application.

Example: A host application manages a number of products and each product has an associated colour. When Power BI reports are created relating to these products, the colour of the series should reflect the colour of the product from the host application.

We do this today with Dundas BI but would really like to see this feature in Power BI too.
