The ability to annotate a visualization, for example a chart or graph, would make both the dashboard and reports experience more robust.

RE: Annotating visualizations!
Here is an example with a third-party visual. Ideally this would be feasible in bar/column/line/area graphs natively

RE: Annotating visualizations!
Annotations are a crucial user experience addition. Feature parity with Tableau would be nice - e.g. ability to annotate a data point or a chunk of data points (see: https://help.tableau.com/current/pro/desktop/en-us/annotations_annotations_add.htm)
RE: Annotating visualizations!
It would be extremely useful to include text on data visualizations. We tracked disease trends over time and it is useful to note with text when there are big changes that influence disease trends (e.g., vaccine introduction).

If you are looking for annotation/ commentary options in Power BI, check out the visual from xViz - https://appsource.microsoft.com/en-us/product/power-bi-visuals/WA200000183?tab=Overview. Refer to this blog on how annotations can be configured - https://xviz.com/blogs/storytelling-using-annotations-in-power-bi/
RE: Annotating visualizations!
A built-in annotations feature integrated into the visualizations is what we need for our product. Sadly, there does not seem to be much traction with this idea since it was submitted in 2015. We'll likely build it as a custom feature using Power BI embedded capabilities.
Domo - one of Microsoft's competitors in the Analytics/BI space - seems to offer this capability out of the box.

RE: Annotating visualizations!
I would like to be able to use the same Annotate and Share features available in the mobile app, in the online app. The same as seen here https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/consumer/mobile/mobile-annotate-and-share-a-tile-from-the-mobile-apps
RE: Annotating visualizations!
David has described the need well, and I agree the Tableau annotation features are a good model. The "Enlighten Data Story" custom visual (in PowerBI marketplace) provides some of the features (combining static text and measures), but the need is to have something like this embedded in other visuals and linked to data points with relative positioning.
