Please consider adding functionality to give the report author more control of shapes, textboxes and images. This functionality might include grouping, disabling selection, etc.

This would enrich the options for organizing data onto the report page and will remove all those unnecessary grey lines and rectangles that the user sees when hovering over the controls

Several of these items have been implemented - including grouping, editing interactions, new shapes, etc.

RE: Better control over the shapes, textbox and images

I've employed a visual designer to help improve our reports, after some great work we now have a fresh look and feel and are very happy.

Then we tied out the new reports in read mode, I was totally shocked that the shapes, textbox's etc can be selected which made all the updates unusable.

This idea/bug was raised in 2015! PowerBI team please re-look at this request.

RE: Better control over the shapes, textbox and images

As a visual designer who has just worked on Power BI, I can echo many of the posts here; I found it a slow and frustrating task adding visual consistency and visual language to reports. Having data is great but to truly leverage it's potential it needs to be presented in engaging and succinct ways.

Being able to group objects, apply shapes to layers and lock elements (so they cannot be selected in 'read mode') would be hugely beneficial. Also removing the objects grab bar as this obscures the view when arranging elements on the canvas area.

I'm not a huge fan of PowerPoint but would find many of it's simple shape editing UI significantly helpful in Power BI.

Any update from the Power BI team on this?

Would really like the ability to disable selection of visuals. For example, I have a report where there is a card visual and trend line visual laid on top. Even with the correct selection and tab orders, the end user can click on the card visual and as a result the trend line disappears when the user hovers over the card while it is selected.

Assume desired functionality would include 'tab order'

RE: Better control over the shapes, textbox and images

without this feature, using bookmarks and hiding filters is not usable as users can click areas outside filter widgets and hide filter widgets.

Needs to be a priority. Creating Slicer panels is limited by this feature as the end-user can select the shape the items are boxed in and inadvertently hide all the items until they click off focus on the shape
