Please consider adding functionality to give the report author more control of shapes, textboxes and images. This functionality might include grouping, disabling selection, etc.

This would enrich the options for organizing data onto the report page and will remove all those unnecessary grey lines and rectangles that the user sees when hovering over the controls

Several of these items have been implemented - including grouping, editing interactions, new shapes, etc.

RE: Better control over the shapes, textbox and images

I have the same issue, I use shapes as background tiles to separate different sections of my dashboard. It looks fantastic but when users accidentally click on the shape / tiles, it covers all the visuals which is extremely poor in terms of UX.

Supporting the idea to disable selection.
It will give the end user a more professional impression if they don't get stuck by clicking on the wrong shape..

RE: Better control over the shapes, textbox and images

I would like to add the folowing to it:
By default Power BI give shapes a padding which seems te be a percentages of the shape size. This is ok when all shapes have the same size but it can become very uggly when shapes have different sizes and you have them snap to grid.
\I would like to be able to format the padding of shapes, both as a percentage as well as in number of pixels. This should also be possible in the json-template.

RE: Better control over the shapes, textbox and images

small thing but very annoying. would be good to be able to disable possibility of selecting an item so that it doesnt get brought to front.
lots of people do some "design" on the page using shapes

Please get this into the backlog! This is turning off decision makers, because it is the only way to have a modern look and feel that you can control. Add the disable focus or disable selection toggle.

Any update on this? If you use shapes, you need this feature. Why would a default behavior be for the shape to be selected and come to the front, getting in the way of your report content? Doesn't make sense. This has been an issue for some time. Please fast track in the backlog.

Agreed disabling a textbox or image from selection altogether is needed.

I agree, this sould be a option, we sould be able to say : this image can't be select by the user, and more option in the image manipulation is a most.

RE: Better control over the shapes, textbox and images

All the editing process of geometric shapes must be reformulated. It is very bad compared to other BI tools.

RE: Better control over the shapes, textbox and images

This is needed so when a background image is clicked on, it is not brought to the front, rather than having to use a work around for this
