Please consider adding functionality to give the report author more control of shapes, textboxes and images. This functionality might include grouping, disabling selection, etc.

This would enrich the options for organizing data onto the report page and will remove all those unnecessary grey lines and rectangles that the user sees when hovering over the controls

Several of these items have been implemented - including grouping, editing interactions, new shapes, etc.

RE: Better control over the shapes, textbox and images

OK, I've found a "solution" but as per usual it's a comprimise and as per usual it's not a solution Microsoft have provided. All you get from them (As per usual) is oh sorry there's no solution to your problem. Now I'm going to mark this as resolved and ask you to upvote it.

Anyway, the solution is as per this video:

https://powerbi.tips/2018/12/respect-layers/

It's about hacky as trying to build a website in IE6 (As I'd expect) but it does resolve this awful and ridiculous problem.

The compromise is that every time a user hovers over the offending item, a tooltip pops up asking you click the button that isn't even a button and there's literally no way to switch this off (Even though there used to be but MS in their infinite wisdom decided to remove this option for reasons unknown....Possibly to drive their customers up the wall by sending them round in never ending circles)

This is very annoying but less annoying than having an epileptic fit induced by the background item that keeps flashing on and off whilst stopping you from interacting with your dashboard whatsoever.

Good luck guys as it look like your own your own with this one yet again.

RE: Better control over the shapes, textbox and images

So I thought I'd finally found a solution after 2 hours https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PKIcjGz_Swg (Obviously not from MS) but it turns out even this doesn't work right now because it's implementation is also buggy: https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Issues/Maintain-Layer-Order-not-working-in-PBI-Service/idc-p/1957826#M67940

Admin just casually says yeah it's a bug and maybe we'll get it fixed in some point in the future. No apology. No reason why. Nothing. Just a vague promise that it might be fixed.

What's the point of having a community site where it's just pages and pages of people with the same problem being ignored?

RE: Better control over the shapes, textbox and images

Why is this marked as completed. Every time I come on here, there's a long string of disgruntled customers who are blatantly ignored and then your admin comes in and marks it as completed andf can we upvote it. Stop trying to game your own systems and actually listen to what your customers are saying.

There's got to be something you can do about this. I cannot believe this is supposed to be intended functionality. I know my users will see it as nothing more than a bug. And so do I.

RE: Better control over the shapes, textbox and images

Three months worth of work ruined because you can't lock a background shape? I see everyone else who's been asking you to sort this out for the last year has apparently already told you how stupid this is as well. Why have you not fixed this? You literally charge us the earth for this service and when I'm looking at your release videos, I'm told that your developers have to implement new customer requests in their spare time because you don't allow them to build basic (Repeat basic) functionality such as this.

This is the latest in string of nasty surprises that you completely neglect to mention in your marketing material including:

 - Not being able to use time intelligence on non Gregorian calendars
 - The dev environment being slow and buggy (Particularly DAX editor)
 - Being put in a queue for refresh so instead of taking a small seconds it take 125 minutes (And apparently there's nothing you can do about that other than pay you more money than the ridiculous amount you're already getting)

This is just the cherry on the cake. I really hope our pilot rollout doesn't get rejected because of this. Either way it's likely that I may have to go back to square 1 with my design to get around this really ridiculously stupid problem.

Thanks Microsoft : (

Sorry, my post was for a slightly different idea (a subset of this) - the ability to enforce z-order.

Great news folks! This looks like this has been fixed in the Sept 2020 release.
On the General tab, there's a toggle for 'Maintain layer order'! Woo hoo!

Hi,

a better workaround than using an action on Bookmark is to make an Action on Navigation Page.
Create a measure with your page name as value and then choose this mesure on Fx action.

Sync and filters will no change as it may append on bookmark.

RE: Better control over the shapes, textbox and images

I have also the same issue, I use image as background and placed some visuals on top of image and image set as a back. It looks good but when users accidentally click on the image, it covers all the visuals/KPI which doesn't looks good.
