Problem Description:

When publishing a visual from Power BI Desktop version February 2024 to Power BI Server, the Custom Data Labels setting is not being applied as expected. Instead of displaying the custom field data labels specified in Power BI Desktop, the visual shows the default field data labels. This results in the Custom Label feature being turned off upon publishing.

Expected Behavior:

Upon publishing a visual to Power BI Server from Power BI Desktop:

  • The Custom Data Labels setting should be retained and applied.
  • The visual should display the custom field data labels as specified in Power BI Desktop.

Current Behavior:

  • The Custom Data Labels setting is disregarded.
  • The visual defaults to displaying the field data labels, overriding the custom labels set in Power BI Desktop.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Create or open a visual in Power BI Desktop version February 2024.
  2. Set custom data labels using the Custom Data Labels setting.
  3. Publish the visual to Power BI Server.
  4. View the published visual on Power BI Server to observe that the custom data labels are not applied, and the default field data labels are displayed instead.

Impact:

This issue affects the accuracy and customization of visuals published to Power BI Server, potentially leading to confusion among users who expect to see the custom data labels as defined in Power BI Desktop.

Resolution:

We need to investigate this issue further to determine whether it is a bug in the February 2024 version of Power BI Desktop or a compatibility issue with Power BI Server. It's crucial to address this issue to ensure that visuals maintain their intended customizations when published to Power BI Server.
