Currently, all data sources in a Power BI report/dataset, that are not on cloud, must be available in a single Gateway to work.

But if the datasources in the report are coming from different Gateways, that doesn't work. It is not possible to combine them for refresh.

Say I have a Sales Report. It connects to DB A, B and C.

DB A and B is configured in Gateway X
DB C is configured in Gateway Y.

The report creator have been provided access to all of them.

Now if I try to configure data refresh in PBI Service, it will not work. As none of the Gateway has all 3 DBs. The user can’t connect to DB A and B through Gateway X, and DB C through Gateway Y.

We have to configure all the DBs in the same Gateway to work.

Since in our organization, we have many datasources, and different teams control the access to them, it becomes troublesome, and lots of repetitive data sources has to be created that causes a governance and management headache.

It's really useful if you need to combine data from two different domains. For some sources due to domain authentication there is no way to connect them from single GW.

This would be extremely helpful. I'm integrating data from two servers in physically distant locations. It pulls data so much faster when the gateway is on the same server. This would make refresh so much better!

got a local gateway at our head office that we need to merge data with a data source in aws. this will be a great enterprise feature of merging data from all data sources from where ever they are.

RE: Combine multiple Gateway in single dataset/report

This would be a huge feature enhancement. It would eliminate my team's need to move all of our data sources from different systems into one single database, and save months of effort. We'd like to create a report using data sources from multiple gateways, but due to this limitation, we are unable to.

RE: Combine multiple Gateway in single dataset/report

Yes, that would reduce lot of data replication. It would be awesome to use multiple Gateway for a report.

RE: Combine multiple Gateway in single dataset/report

I would like to advocate for this development as it is really putting a constraint on dashboards that connect to multiple gateways.

This idea should be far more popular than it is!

RE: Combine multiple Gateway in single dataset/report

Yes, this change is critical to the adoption of PowerBI in our organization, we need the ability to connect to multiple data sources/DB.
