  1. Drill-through, actions & parameter passing - just make it work

A truly functional BI solution requires every dashboard, report or navigation UI to work together. This means that we need the ability to define actions and pass context information from one report interface to another - and there are far too many ways to do this in limited ways that don't work consistently across the products in the "integrated" BI arsenal.
In my perfect world, I define a cube action in SSAS (multi or Tabular) and that action gets surfaced in whatever reporting tool we choose to use (Excel/Excel Services, SSRS, Power View or Power BI dashboard). Through whatever action/parameter…

  2. Improve Reporting Services

Improve Reporting Services (or converge it with Power BI). SSRS hasn't been improved very much in the last versions. For many uses cases SSRS still offers features such as export to several formats (PDF, Word, Excel...) which are not covered by Power BI.

  3. Add a client side HTML5 renderer for SSRS

Please make a significant investment in SSRS by adding a client side rendering engine that [1] does not require a postback to be performed every time an action is clicked [2] renders better charts more responsively on the client side [3] is generally interactive, and competitive and is [4] as full featured as SSRS currently is (PowerView is not currently as full featured as SSRS).

  4. SSRS - add a "Justify" option for Horizontal/TextAlign property in Text Boxes

For SSRS Text Box controls, add a "Justify" option for the Horizontal/TextAlign property. This would produce fully justified text, as in Word.

This feature supports automated production and distribution of documents of publication quality.

This has been an open Connect item for over 5 years, gathering over 500 votes:

  5. SSRS dynamic tablix column width for a report

SSRS dynamic tablix column width for a report.

We should be able to control columns width in SSRS tablix in order to get a better display on the report. Here is a link that talk about this feature request: https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/9e6043f1-c458-4540-be59-d37b02feab8a/dynamic-column-width-for-a-report?forum=sqlreportingservices

  6. More control in Report Parameter section

In Reporting Services, when you design a report, the parameter section has limited functionality. User can only change sequence of parameters. Besides that, user has no control over the parameters like background colors, size of fields, combining and showing multiple fields in the dropdowns etc

  7. SSRS Maps - Make it dynamic

In SSRS, the maps you design are static. We should have more functionality like dynamic zooming in and out, dynamic selection of objects on map, showing different levels of data at different level of zooming.

Developers have to search online for map objects and then import it. We should have a bigger library of basic maps.

  8. On-page filter/controls in SSRS

I'd like to be able to control specific objects (using checkboxes, buttons, etc) on a page independent of the overall report parameters. For example, So if I've got two charts on a page but only want the user to see one at a time, I currently use drillthrough actions to reload the whole report. I'd like to add a button or link or some sort of control to the page to show/hide the two different charts.

  9. Provide report viewer control that works in vNext / ASP.NET / MVC

Latest details on vNext say native support of WebForms will not be available and this will be delivered as an addon in future. With the change in strategy how about building a report viewer I can embed in ASP.NET MVC and/or other ASP.NET hosted frameworks?

We still have to embed a webform in our MVC apps just to integrate SSRS Reports. It would be great to have proper integration and better control in ASP.NET without the need of webforms

  10. Allow Charts to switch rows to columns or vice versa at design time to display the data on the axis that you want.

Allow Charts to switch rows to columns or vice versa at design time to display the data on the axis that you want. Similar functionality exists in excel.

  12. Improve parameter passing in SSRS

Parameters are the key to building interactive reporting solutions but complex report designs can become difficult to maintain. Let's say that I have ten items on a dashboard style report that pass all the parameters back to the same report (which is necessary to maintain the state of previously-selected parameter values)... Now I add one more parameter to the report and I have to find every item with an action to add that parameter. If there were some kind of a parameter collection object, similar to the property bag in old VB or the Request/Response/Application/Cookies objects commonly used in ASP.NET;…

  13. SSRS is a Needed Platform Component - Modernize & innovate

SSRS needs its visualizations updated and the look & feel modernized to be more flashy like Qlickview. Report Builder needs to be updated with new usability features, new data sources supported. Deep support for ESRi (beyond shape files which are rarely used today)

  14. Subscriptions Management Tool

Centralized management tools for subscriptions for SSRS reports. Running in SP integrated mode we need a way to see in the SP subscription list something unique to visually identify subscriptions. Something as simple as displaying a comment or allowing the subscriptions "manager" to enter a name/title for the subscription. We also need a consolidated view/report to see all the subscriptions with the parameters and schedule selected as well as the user email address would be helpful.

  15. Support for more data sources

Support for more data sources such as OData, HDInsight/HDFS etc. Maybe converge the support/approach similar to the support in Power Query or PowerPviot.

  17. Better control over the placement of the paramters

Currenty if you want to control where the parameters should be placed you have sometimes to add additional dummy parameters.

  18. Add breadcrumb trail

Add a method by which you can see the reports you have navigated through to get where you are now. This enables you to jump back and also gives you a good idea of where you are in complex report heirarchies

  19. SSRS - export to Word - Column widths in tables do not respect the defined widths

There are a couple of scenarios where column widths are not respected when exporting to Word.

The most common is where a nested table has a column with "narrow" content - the column width sometimes shrinks to contents.

The other is when a column contains a long word with no spaces or breaking characters - the Word column width is increased to the width of that word.
