  1. .xlsb Excel file data refresh support

.xlsb Excel files can be loaded in Power Bi Desktop. Unfortunately the data refresh via a gateway is not possible and fails.

  2. more specific info about why scheduled refresh failed

Hi, I really appreciate the email that is generated when the scheduled refresh failed. Would it be possible to add there:
    - name or ID of workspace failed report is in?
    - information why it failed (eg. "Could not resolve QueryDefinition due to invalid SourceEntity reference '<pi>_MyMeasures</pi>'. This error often happens after the Entity was renamed or deleted. Please update the query/visual to use the new name or undo the name change. - Source: 'User' "

It would be very helpful for us, who have many workspaces and need to know what is wrong.

    Thank you,
    Zuzana

  3. Add Relative Time filtering to the Visual Level filter line chart

Since now PowerBI has real time data there is no way to filter a line chart based on the last "x" minutes. In the relative date filtering it is handy to have to choose minutes.

  4. Make Azure VM scaleset image available for powerBI gateway

Our entire organization reports depend on single enterprise gateway and at time the load increases to maximum, triggering us to add a new node manually.

this manual node is waste of time to monitor manually and take down to reduce costs, when not in use.

if you start supporting azure vm scalesets, this would provide following benefits
    -> auto scale on load
-> reduce costs with scale down options

  5. gateway usage

Usage Report for Enterprise Gateway - The log data should be available so that we can create dashboards based on Gateway Usage data.
Metrics like the datasets name using Gateway, workspace name, owner, scheduled refresh frequency, adhoc refresh, run duration and other parameters for all dependent reports should be available. This will help in scaling the Enterprise Gateway correctly and avoid bottlenecks. Currently there is no visibility to the work spaces for which we don't have access however responsible for maintaining gateway.

  7. Feature to disable connection in Power BI Gateway

In Power BI gateway we have available features to add and remove connection; but we do not have anything like enable/disable. However a feature to be able to disable connection will be helpful when resetting/changing password in a connection. Or sometime we want to hold a particular database to be accessed from Power BI when some maintenance activity is in progress in that database. So it would be helpful if we can control the connectivity to different sources in the gateway using disable/enable.

  9. Enterprise Gateway - schedual refresh on an interval for SQL

Instead of selecting specific time slot for when to update, it would be faster to just select refresh every x hour.
Also In the setup there is right now I have a gateway that starts to update a lot of datasets the the same time stamp. Could be an idea also to select an option to refresh when the gateways is not occupied by other refresh tasks, to even out the load

  10. Bug refreshing R stats source

After publishing a PBIX with an R script as a data source the refresh fails in the service with exception below after entering credentials : RException.....NotValidRException

This using R-3.6.0 64bit in Windows 10 with the PersonalGateway 3000.6.202. Note, R script runs fine in the PBIX file as well as R Studio.

  11. Send Refresh Failure Notifications to Distribution List

It would be helpful to be able to set up a distribution list of those to send refresh failure notifications to. Currently, only the owner receives an email, but we have several administrators that require notification when certain reports fail.

  12. Allow Automation for ON-premises installation

Allow Automation for ON-premises Gateway installation.
We have 20 Servers with Enterprise Gateways install on them.
As new versions come out, we want to update the Gateway on all servers. However, we can not use a silent install since it is non-existing feature. We have to go server-by-server and install the gateway and then configure it. Please allow silent install just like SQL Server

  13. Force dataset takeover to new after manipulation of dataset

Whenever a user overwrites a dataset in the Power BI Service he should be forced to takeover the dataset, to make sure this user is authorized for the connected data sources.

Gateway datasource are authorized to certain users only. According to the documentation only these users should be able to publish reports that use the data source and therefore to decide what information is made available to the consumers of the report.
By downloading the PBIX file, changing and republishing the dataset any edit user of the workspace can extract any data they want from the data source even though…

  15. Add Email Gateway Admins button/Conversation Thread on Gateway Settings Browser Page

When accessing the Gateway via App.PowerBI.com, can we add a 'Email Gateway Admins' button in the Administrators tab so that we can quickly notify other admins of issues, or when an admin will be updating the gateway, etc.? Also, would love to have a Teams style conversation thread in this Gateway settings area... Think about it, Admins can be in many organizations, and there is no automatics way to communicate with them at this time!

  17. Approval Process for Gateways / Prevent Personal Gateways

Build an approval process for Gateways before they become Active on a tenant. The approval process would be manged by the Power BI Admin. This approval process could be a feature the Power BI Admin can enable / disable, defaulting to disabled to retrain backward compatibility.

Current reality allows anyone with a Pro License to push any internal data they have access too to the service. With the right permission they can then push this data public without restrictions.

This feature is a must have in an Enterprise concerned about how data is used / managed. Just because some has…

  20. Removal of mandatory UPN authentication in SSAS reports via gateway

It would be very useful if users mapped in SSAS reports do not require belonging to an active directory, not all server users have UPN and we believe it would be a beneficial improvement to implement in future versions of the gateway, since from the data source of the service it gives as correct but since the connection from the gateway with SSAS gives authentication errors and that is an inconsistency
