  1. Custom Viz access to the previous levels in a drill-down

The current version of Power BI visualsation framework does not support access to the previous levels in a drill-down. I.e. you only get access to the current level when rendering. That makes it very hard to develop visualizations such as pivot tables or breakdown trees.

This would let custom viz developers add thing like pivot tables and Breakdown Trees :)

[This idea was created as an offshoot of https://ideas.powerbi.com/forums/265200-power-bi-ideas/suggestions/15844186-pivot-tables-and-breakdown-trees. Fredrik had initially asked for updates to the Custom Viz API, but many votes and comments were cast assuming the idea was just asking for the Power BI team to…

Thank you everyone for the comments and votes. We’re looking into what could be done here. To be transparent, so far our findings are that the infra to do this right for the long term is actually a very large intricate work item. So I cannot say when we could actually delivery this capability. Our current focus with custom visuals is to continue filling in the existing features into our stable APIs so that custom visuals are fully compatible version on version. This itself is vital work in the custom visuals area both for our custom visual authors/developers and for users who depend on the visuals day in and day out. Appreciate your using Power BI, keep the suggestions coming! We read every comment you make, even if we’re not able to respond to every single one.

      • Dynamic date slicer

The new date slicer is awesome, but it would be so nice if you could set a dynamic date selection instead of a static. With a static filter the user will always have to set the dates before the saved report makes sense - especially as the report gets older.

        Dynamic options could be
YTD, QTD, MTD, WTD, Today, This Year, This Quarter, This Month, This Week and so on.

We released a preview of a new matrix visual with today Power BI Desktop release. This new matrix can be used as a source of cross-highlighting, has a stepped layout, can be drilled in to /out of hierarchies, and has performance updates.

You can read all about it in our blog post: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-desktop-march-feature-summary/#matrix

During the preview we will be adding even more new features, so keep watch each month for more improvements and let us know in comments what else you’d like to see.

          • Allow customization of email subscription schedule

Extend the existing email subscription feature to allow me to specify exactly *when* the email is sent out - e.g. send me the email at 2pm every Monday.

More information about the existing feature can be found here: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/introducing-email-subscriptions-in-power-bi-stay-informed-when-it-matters/

            • Dynamic Parameters for What if analysis

[Will Thompson] I've just merged a couple of very close scenarios, which all have similar great ideas! Something we're considering for the future, so I'm keen to hear your feedback on this. I like this core scenario of a numeric value that is bound to a slider control, and can then be used as part of some expression.

              - In a sales report, I can adjust a '% increase' slider to see what impact a small change in revenue might have had on my sales.
              - In a mortgage calculator, I can change the % rate, borrowed amount and term to see projected…

Hey all – we’re looking into how best to tackle this and other filter/slicer-related functionality.

We’ve put together a short survey to better understand different use cases and what improvements would make the experience better.  If you have a few moments, the survey takes about 10 minutes to complete.  We appreciate your feedback!

                • Allow PowerBI mobile app to open local files

Hi, Power BI allows us to create great insights supporting our daily jobs. While we can use the desktop version in my company, we have a security issue with publishing to Cloud. Data protection is heavily focused.
To avoid breaking any internal rules on data protection, we would definitely benefit from option where PowerBI mobile would allow users to open local files without having them pushed to Cloud via Publish function in PBI desktop.
Viewing local files works great with Word/Excel/PowerPoint on mobile.
                  Thanks for considering / reply

                    • Change column labels/names in the visual

It would be great if we could change columns labels/names in the standard visuals (Table & Matrixes mainly). In our company we have a data warehouse build to support the PowerBI tabular model with the data. The field names in the data model are not the most intuitive to our PowerBI End User. It could be great if we could change the way the field labels are shown in our tables to be more intuitive and meaningful without needing to change the field names in the data model.

                      • Printing custom visualizations

It would be helpful to be able to print custom visualizations to PowerPoint. Currently there is just a message saying that the visualizations are not currently supported. Even allowing the visuals to be frozen in a picture format would be acceptable. Thanks.

                        • Measure Dependency View (similar to the Query Dependency View)

The newly introduced Query Dependency view is phenomenal but what we really need is a Measure Dependency view. Here is what it might look like: http://ppvt.pro/2eXKndh
And a video detailing this idea: https://youtu.be/sYjBB_Ef66M

In one of my production models I have 60 Queries, but I have 200+ measures! I believe that is typical; usually I build Queries and Measures as lego blocks, combining simpler ones into more complex ones needed in the end. In fact I needed it so badle that I attempted to build a Measure Dependency view using NodeXL. While that works, it's a lot of heavy lifting.…

In late 2016, Power BI improved our export data options to allow exporting up to 150,000 rows to Excel from a visual on a Power BI dashboard for Pro users. If you require higher limits, please vote on this idea. If you have more specific requirements, please leave them in the comments.

More flexible Conditional Formatting in Tables and matrixes.
The current color customization in tables is very limiting. I need more than 3 color choices.
I should be able to add multiple values and assign colors to each.

                                • Greater control over the scale and division of axes, especially values less than 1.

Greater control over the scale and division of axes. The MAJORITY of our data is frequency related where we have to display values in scientific notation from the range of 10-9 up to 10-2. Display of numbers greater than 1 creates automatic minor division on the y axis; but if below value of 1, the minor lines on the y axis do not display and there is no control over this. Same applied for x axis. Similar comments have been posted over greater control of the axes values and arrangement, but I have not seen one about small number values.

                                  • KPI Icon sets for use in table and matrix visualizations

Many of the Power BI Community have come from a background of using Power Pivot in Microsoft Excel. Excel had a fantastic way of using built-in conditional KPI icon functionality to add impact and information to table and matrix visualizations. The red-yellow-green circle icon set is valuable as an easy-to-interpret indicator of whether something is on track (or not) against defined goals.

This functionality is glaringly absent from the Power BI Desktop. There was a previous request for tis that has been marked as “completed”, but it’s still missing.

                                    • Change the sorting order local settings in Power BI Desktop file (ä ö å etc.)

When you create a new .pbix file, the sorting order is defined and hard coded by the user interface language of Power BI Desktop, not by the regional settings under Options > Current File > Locale.

It means that if you create a .pbix file with English Power BI Desktop version, local characters (Finnish, Danish or Swedish: ä ö å etc,) are not sorted correctly in your model and you can’t change the hard coded setting later!

You’ll have to recreate the model in your local version of Power BI Desktop, if your data contains local characters and you’ll want…

                                        • ODC equivalent for Power BI Desktop

Office data connection (odc) files allow end users to quickly and easily launch , create a pivot table connected directly to a specified data source. I propose a Power BI data connection (PDC) file that had similar behavior. This would allow easy publishing access to data sources in enterprises so end users that wish to author custom reports against data sources don't need to jump through multiple steps to access data source. The PDC file would launch desktop tool and connect directly to configured data source in one step.
