  1. Named Databse connection in Gateway

Allow "Named" Connections in Gateway. This way we don't need to change the connections when moving from Dev to Prod.

    Example:
Assume I build a report and am testing it through my test Gateway and test database (DBTEST).
Now I want to start using my Prod Gateway and use the Prod database(DB
    Prod).

Currently I need to change the DB Connection in all the reports to DB_Prod to start using Prod.

It would be simpler, if the connection was not based on the Database directly, but based on the names in Gateway.

Then Test Gateway would have a connection…

  2. Personal Gateway Installation option should be included in Tenancy Setting

Standard user should not be able to install Personal Gateway. This should be part of Tenancy setting. So if required, organisation can restrict this setting

The impact of allowing this is that business user are able to connect to data sources and share data outside of data governance which doesn't comply with information security policies.

Our client, has policy to restrict standard user to install and run any exe files. However this doesn't work with Personal Gateway

  3. Data Gateway Automated Installation

Support automated installation and registration of Data Gateway(s).

Thus could be via a command-line tool or a Powershell Module, but preferably supported using Powershell DSC resource.

  4. View List of Reports Associated with a Gateway

In the Power BI Service, gear icon menu, under 'Manage Gateways', would you consider adding a 'View Associated Reports' option to the menu that's displayed when "..." is clicked by a data gateway's name?

    Use Case:
When migrating from an old gateway to a new gateway, the web interface doesn't provide a way to see which reports are associated with the old gateway and so need to be updated to use the new gateway. In the self-service BI world, the IT administrator doing the migration may have no idea which gateway each report uses so may need to visit all…

  5. Allow individuals to be set as Data Source Admins

Currently there are admins for the gateway who can admin the environment and the data sources and users who can access specific data sources. There should be an intermediate level of admin capabilities that would allow PBI Gateway admins to assign users the rights to administer specific data sources. Our issue is that the passwords for the service accounts that are used in the DSN change regularly. As usage of the gate2way grows it will become unworkable for an individual or group to manage all the various DSNs in an organization. The DSN admin should have rights to modify any…

  6. Service tags for NSG

    Idea: Service Tags for PowerBI.

Issue: PowerBI Data Gateway is installed on Azure Server OutBound Security Rule needs to be setup on Server every time new server is set up creating manual work, for setting up outbound ports and IP address. Also Microsoft Azure Datacenter IP list is updated weekly which increases maintenance of updating IP address.

Solution/Request: Microsoft Provides PowerBI Service Tag which includes all Ports/IP(updated weekly) so that Outbound security rule can be setup in one place and no maintenance is required for weekly update of IP address.

  7. Gateway deletion

Considering that a Gateway is very easy to be removed by human error, Will be considered in the next Gateway releases implement some deletion method (similar to the one used in Azure Portal for resources where you need to type the name of the resource as a security measure)? What happens if a gateway is deleted from the Power BI service? I'll not be able to recovery anymore right?
At least consider in having the two functionalities ( Add Data Source / Remove) separated from the gateway “right click” options.

  8. logically group gateway's datasources

The ability to group the datasources on a gateway to group either by affinity or by a same concept, or same group of sources, etc. This is just a logical aggregation for easy administration purposes only.
Say I have 10 files the serve for several reports, I'd like to group all those 10 datasources on the gateway to be sure all are ok or to add just there to keep naming convention between them, for instance.
I posted it, it's your turn to vote.

  9. Power BI Enterprise Gateway for report on both OnPremise & Cloud data sources

Power BI Enterprise gateway can not refresh (schedule or on demand) Power BI reports created on both On premise and Cloud data sources. As suggested by Microsoft, as part of a incident, to use personal mode Gateway for such case when a report uses both On premise and Cloud data sources. But personal gateway is not a good solution for business use.
So can Microsoft implement this feature in Enterprise Gateway that it can refresh a report based on both on premise & cloud data sources.

  11. GMSA Account for Enterprise Gateway

When setting up an Entreprise Gateway on PowerBI.com, in the manage gateways, data source setting page.

If I use Windows Authentication, I cannot put a GMSA (Group Managed Service Account) because the password field is required. GMSA account password are generated and maintained by the Key Distribution Service (KDS).

I would like to be able to use this type of account to configure Enterprise Gateway.

  12. recovery

There should be a way to view the recovery key either on the gateway server or on the cloud service. In business, it is not uncommon for the original installer to move on to greener pastures ("get run over by the beer truck" as we say), taking the location of the recovery key with them. The new responsible party will then need this key.

  13. PowerBI Enterprise Gateway for Linux

Since it seems to depend on .net runtime only (at least more or less), why not port the gateway to linux? There are many customers who want to run linux only backends and are scared of having a windows machine running alongside their holy glory mission critical infrastructure...

  14. Let "try" and "try otherwise" the Gateway offline situation

It seems, that currently it is not possible to "try" the situation when Gateway is offline. Now, in case Gateway is offline and I have R.Execute call, PBI service just completely stops refreshment, even if just part of data is gotten from the R script from Gateway.

It would be great to let a user decide in M code what to do in case there are some troubles with Gateway access, obviously through using "try".

  15. moving data sources between gateway clusters

    Hello,
It would be great if we have the ability to move data sources between gateway clusters so that we could use gateway cluster groups as categories etc or merge data sources that have initially been created in different clusters but are using the same gateway into one cluster.

    Thank you

  16. On-premise data gateway refresh fails when merging two tables from different web content sources

The problem appears when one of the tables uses two tables, that each of them is from different web.content source by merging them with m language.
When i try to refresh the model with service i get an error message:
"Cannot connect to the mashup data source. .."

When the model is using the same sources without merging them, all works fine.

  17. OAuth to be made available for Enterprise Gateway

We are using Organizational account for connecting to OData feed in Power BI desktop. However, In Power BI service - OAuth authentication(which is required for Organization account) for adding the data source to Enterprise gateway is not yet available.
The only workaround for adding such data sources is to add such data sources is to create an API.

Kindly enable Organization Authentication in the Enterprise Gateway which will ease such issues.

  18. To be able to rename an existing connection on On-Premisis Data Gateway

We are creating a naming convention for the data gateway connection. We have a challenge that existing connections are not comply with the naming convention. We are not able to rename them but only to delete existing connection and create new connections. This will cause downtime and also a complex procedure which is easily brings in mistakes.

We wish that we can have the ability to rename the connections on data gateway.

  19. Refresh data upon change to the report

When the pbix file is updated (published via Get Data) or whenever a new pbix overwrites a current report, the dataset should be refreshed.

What happens currently is that the report may be weeks out of data when republished, and this old data replaces current data on apps (even without republishing). Instead, the dataset should always be refreshed when the pbix source changes.

  20. Start capturing and recording the 'Created Power BI gateway' events in the audit logs

There is a selection for the 'Created Power BI gateway' activity in the Audit Log Search of the Security & Compliance Center, but the events are currently not being captured or recorded. The Power BI Product Group has confirmed this is by design and stated, “CreateGateway events are not currently being audited in the Audit Logs. It's possible this may be added in the future, but as of right now, there are no plans to add this feature.”
