  1. In Power Query, Keep Rows is not very intuitive.

In Power Query, Keep Rows is not very intuitive. E.g Keep Errors should be Keep Errors Only, same for Keep Duplicates. Currebtly it gives the impression that we want to keep all rows INCLUDING error rows.

  2. Group by with mode (modal value) measure

When using the "Group by" function we can choose between some measures (or functions) like min, max etc.

I think that could be awesome to have also mode value (modal value) that will be very interesting for some kind of data!

  3. Parent-Child hierarchies

Actually parent-child hierarchies are managed only if there are no empty values in the parent column and, in that case, you have tu add a row to add the empty key and manage the default/empty values. After that, you have to use PATH/LOOKUPVALUE DAX functions to add descriptions columns to use in the hierarchy.
This process is heavy and static (if a new level is add, a new column is needed).
An automatic process in the load phase (like qlik sense) should be nice.

  4. BC Province State map to Canadian Province of British Columbia not Caja California in Mexico

In working with the two-letter mailing abbreviation for Canadian Provinces, BC, Province should map to the Canadian Province of British Columbia not Baja California in Mexico.

  5. Travel ODL - DTS user email

It would be nice to have the travelers Email in the Data so we can utilize Mail Merge and really get after this ODL.

if you cannot for some reason, i would encourage you to change the formatting of the travelrs name to Last, First so they are easier to find in global when mail merging.

  6. Word stemming

I'd like to have the ability to perform word stemming without having to use R or Python.
When using word clouds, a lot of processing is lost in similar words or synonyms.
It should be able to process this since word stemming is one of the fundamental steps when processing sentences.

  7. Power Query Steps Timing

Display Timings for each step in the Applied Steps pain in ms

    E.g
    Source (10 ms)
    Navigation (2 ms)
    mRemOthCols (2 ms)
    mFilterOutNulls (10 ms)
    mChgType (2 ms)

Total Execution time on the Top next to the Query name

This will help us optimise queries and see if the time differences are significant

The Query Diagnostic tables are too complex and don't provide meaningful information that can be used by a business user

  8. Manual Mode in Power Query

Give us a Manual Mode (Like Excel or Power Pivot in Excel) - where in as you edit the Query steps - PQ does not make calls back the Data source instead works with the Cached data (1000 rows)
This would greatly improve the experience for the developer during the Query building stage / editing stage when working with large data sets

Currently the edit speeds are pathetic even for small data sets

  9. Load big amount of data

It'd be better that PowerBI adopt technology like atscale (atscale.com) to accomodate such a need of big amount of data offloading.

  10. Better handling of DataFormat.Errors from Excel (#REF!, #N/A!, etc.)

Power Query in both Power BI and Excel cannot cope with Excel error types within the data; it's enough that one cell within the imported worksheet will have value of #REF! to make entire query fail.
There's no remediation for it: Removing/Replacing Errors or Replacing Values (when formatting all fields to text) won't help.
Only solution is to go to source Excel file, but that's troublesome if you feed from 100's of Excel workbooks.

  14. Don't Replace Existing Steps When Drilling Into an Error

When drilling into an error please give an option to create a new table instead of just nuking the subsequent steps.

  15. Add a setting to disable column profiling altogether

There is no way (as of Jun 2019) to fully disable column profiling. The problem is that complex queries can take a long time to execute and the column profiling header bar at the top of each column can take minute or hours of processing to show the color-coded green bar. All the while, it's eating up database resources and making PQ run slower.

  16. Data Model View Layouts available in Visualization View

The feature of being able to create new data model views is great for complex models. Unfortunately it does nothing for consumers of the model. It would be ideal to have the ability to filter the Fields list to only the tables and fields of a particular layout. This would help users find tables that relate to each other when creating their own reports from an existing data model.

  17. Conditional batch replace in single step

Wish to do multiple replaces in a single step similar to the conditional column step.

Wish to have multiple conditions here too

EG Value = 'D' where value in Column 2 starts with 'X' and value in Column 3 is 123

  19. Add column - Index column, i.e. Table.AddIndexColumn, shall create whole numbers (int) instead of decimal numbers (float)

Currently the Table.AddIndexColumn() functions creates values of type decimal (floats). I see no reason for creating decimal numbers since the incremental steps can't be set to decimal number, nor the initial value can be set to a decimal value:

Table.AddIndexColumn(table as table, newColumnName as text, optional initialValue as nullable number, optional increment as nullable number) as table

The documentation does not say what type the new column will have, but now it's created as decimal number.

The recommendation will be that Microsoft either changes the type of the generated column, or extends the parameter set with a type so we…

  20. Visual Process Flow in Power Query

The Power Query editor should have the ability to switch back and forth to a visual diagram.

I love stepping out M query - but I find when teaching end users that have used other data prep or ETL tools they are used to a visual diagram.

A visual flow allows you to show relationships to other queries/sources and in some ways can be more intuitive to users.
