Matrix +/- Collapse/ Expand Buttons
Please add Collapse/Expand buttons in the Matrix Visualizations. Otherwise when all fields are expanded by default the user would have to scroll a lot to find what they are looking for. I could add a slicer to take user to the data they are looking for but then the rest of the data in the matrix disappears and more specifically the overall totals change!Expand/Collapse buttons would keep the overall totals as intended and totals for other fields while allowing the user to only expand the field they are interested in. Also ability to do conditional formatting for a specific field in the matrix would be nice. Thanks!
With our November update of Power BI Desktop, you can now expand/collapse matrix row headers. You can read more on our blog: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-desktop-november-2018-feature-summary/#expandCollapse
A few people were asking about column headers. As some of the work involved for column headers is different than row headers, we want to understand how many users specifically need/want column header support as well. If you need column header support, please vote on this idea that I added to UserVoice: https://ideas.powerbi.com/forums/265200/suggestions/36038050
That's pretty nice - thanks PBI devs.
Please look at the Hierarchy slicer visual. Using that visual and adding the ability to Include columns for Amount and making sure it would Grand Total would be a 100% fix for all financial reporting needs.
1. It has +/- buttons (displayed as a sideways pyramid)
2. You can selectively Expand and collapse all groups
3. You can also choose to filter on whatever group or sub group is expanded by selecting a Square
4. All you need to do is Add the ability to Put Values in The Value field and have those values neatly display on the Right hand side
5. Add some simple formatting options and your done! I promise , this would be the end solution to Financial reporting in Power BI.
LOOK AT THE Hierarchy Slicer in the Power BI gallery! That's what financial reporting needs. A simple solution is available and you already are 1/2 way there.
I swear, I am going to have to hire developers myself to get any kind of Financial reporting capabilities.
Microsoft Power BIO team just doesn't understand or have any clue what it takes to actually create a useful Financial reporting visual.
But at least everyone that uses Power BI in our organization had a good laugh. Boy , this is like some weird comedy show.
We have a bet going in the office on how long it will take Microsoft to "Get It" I put my money on 36 months.
Ok, After going to the correct link:
And enabling the preview feature, I can now confirm more than ever that this is just as useless as a regular Matrix.
1. When drilling you completely loose orientation of other levels. All the other levels disappear making it impossible to see Revenue AND Expenses together
2. No +/- sign is not included so whatever was done has absolutely NOTHING to do with this topic
3. Grand Totals don't work
4. There is no way to see an actual indent of the data making this in my opinion the absolutely most useless waste of time ever .
Please Hire some new developers or at the very least, hire some new Program Managers!
Shame on you Microsoft. Let me know when you actually have something useful.
Amanda, the link to the blog post above does not work
Looks like column sorting no longer works :(
Doesn't work.... What the heck are you people smoking? This is crazy.... I have downloaded the March edition and the function simply isn't available.

What would be nice is if the user could choose which categories (or rows) to be expanded with everything else being displayed at the higher level.
Also, it seems like the column grand total is now missing. Only the row grand totals show.
Where is this? All your links are truncated and as usual You need to spend hours digging for any information.
WHERE IS THE LINK TO THIS NEW PREVIEW?
powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-d.. doesn't work

The way this has been implemented is rather awkward. The lack of +/- buttons leaves it unclear whether you can drill down another level. While you can click a column/row header to drill down into it, you have to click the up arrow at the top of the visual to drill back up. Additionally, drilling down into a column/row header removes all the other data, which is different than in Excel.
It works, and I do appreciate that, but I guess I just don't understand why we need to force the users to learn two different interfaces, one for Excel and one for Power BI.
Actually, it works okay. I have downloaded and tested the new desktop. And you do not see the small+ like in an excel file, but it works good - you can see all the levels as if it was excel.
Great!!! THANKS A LOT
Hi, I tried downloading the new installer, but the Matrix visual preview isn't there.

Yes, I would like to control the amount of subtotals in the matrix! Please add this feature.
Same as drill down possibility, this is a must have !! Please ...?

Unless this feature will be released we will not be able to close our BI project..Pls let us know when this feature will be added to POWER BI..Why this must have feature is not there till date?

How can this basic feature still be under review, can we please get an update on this? Thanks! This is blocking rollout to my enterprise.
Any update when this feature will be available?
This feature makes my dashboard lot easier. I do not want to open up all the hierarchy values opened up everytime, this will help our users just to drill up/down only when they need.
I would love to see this happens soon!
