How can we improve Power BI?

PowerBI reports and dashboard on-premise hosting

As per available documentation, power bi reports and dashboards will be published to microsoft cloud. It is very awesome approach as it saves all overhead of maintaining infrastructure. But there are case where on-premise hosting is required, Can we configure on-premise server to host power bi reports just like SSRS reports?

Hi everyone,

With Power BI Report Server now generally available (https://powerbi.microsoft.com/report-server/), we’re marking this idea completed. I want to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for participating in this community over the past few months and taking time out of your busy days to try the previews and share your feedback; I can’t overemphasize how much we appreciate it and how much it contributes to the product.

In case you missed it, check out our recent blog post, “A closer look at Power BI Report Server” (https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/sqlrsteamblog/2017/05/17/a-closer-look-at-power-bi-report-server/).

While the June 2017 release supports Power BI reports that connect “live” to Analysis Services, we’re hard at work on integrating the Power Query/M-language and Analysis Services/DAX engines to unlock direct connectivity to the other Power BI Desktop data sources, targeted for later this (calendar) year.

We’ve now created a “Report Server” category for your ideas. Have an idea for a feature you’d like to see in a future release of Power BI Report Server? Submit it here: https://ideas.powerbi.com/forums/265200-power-bi-ideas/category/207604-report-server.

Thanks!

We are healthcare company and would like to use Power BI as BI tool for our Data. We have CRM Dynamics on-premise, can we get something similar to it in Power BI like on-premise where patient health data doesn't upload to any cloud but stay on server and still can be accessible by Executive throughout different office in a country.

@Anonymous, rest assured we're not postponing anything. According to plan, immediately after finishing SSRS 2016, we started on Power BI reports and are optimizing for releasing a production-ready version as soon as possible, which we project to be mid-2017.

@Giampaolo, we'd like to standardize toward Power Query for data connectivity and querying. Our short-term focus will be on Power BI report queries (to support data sources beyond Analysis Services), but in our long-term roadmap, we'd like to integrate paginated reports and Power Query as well.

It is a very bad decision. Postponement of integration with SSRS 2016 is shooting itself in the foot by Microsoft. Competition will come soon where there may be only OnPremise :(

@Riccardo what does mean: "We plan to release a production-ready version in the next SQL Server release wave. (As previously clarified, we won’t be releasing it in a Service Pack, Cumulative Update, or other form of update for SSRS 2016.)" ? it feels like a SSRS 2017 or im wrong?

Thanks @ Riccardo for this information. We are very curious. You do a great job. I wish you a nice Christmas.

Any plans to allow us to create Tablet & Phone views, for Power BI Reports that can be uploaded to on-premise SSRS? Similar to Mobile Report.

Heading towards the new year can you then give an estimated release date. Are we talking winter, spring or summer? This would really help planning for the coming year.

Thanks for giving us the possibility to "sneak preview" the current state of the bits and pieces. I am really looking forward to installing Power BI on my premises.

Not integrating Power BI reports in SSRS 2016 is a stupid move, it's a must... On-premise is our only way to go due to regulatory rules.

Technical Preview has worked out great. I have both Tabular and MOLAP versions running. Will be great if the downloadable-to-our-environment version has the support for SQL Server/Oracle and other data sources.

It would be great if we can install and configure technical preview version on our on premises so we can connect to our SSAS multi and tabular data sources or even to direct queries. Thanks!
