Have the ability to download Reports from the service to a local .pbix file that can be modified in the designer application.

Looking for the same feature i.e. export/import service file <-> Desktop

Hi, it will be launched in next realese? It's absolutely necessary...

Any update here?
Absolutely necessary when so many of our folks are on Mac. Without this the duplication of edits necessary to keep working in Desktop is tremendous.
any updates on this?

Hello, if I understood correctly you want to update your .pbix file's only data model so you can use your previously created reports. If this is the issue, in our company we are doing the following.
1) Let us name the files as local file and model file.
2) Backup the files.
3) Change the extension of both files as .zip.
4) Extract both files.
5) Take DataMashup, DataModel, Metadata and DiagramState files from extracted model file.
6) Override the same local files with these.
7) Zip the local file back to its first state.
8) Change the extension of local file to .pbix
In fact we wrote a small program(doing these steps) which updates the local file without ruining the reports. Up to now I could not find a way which uses template files. It works only for .pbix files.
Of course if Power BI team implements a feature like this it would be great. But for now you can use this method.

Really looking forward to the implementation of this feature!

This sounds like a really essential feature. I can't wait till it is implemented. It is good to know that you are working on it and that it will soon be in our hands.
If we had this functionality it would significantly improve the management of our Bi services.
Absolute must have feature!
This is a must to have feature
Great! am looking forward to this functionality.

Feature very necessary. Please add as quickly as possible! An option to save the data model as another extension (pbimx, for example) and import it into another file pbix would be ideal.

It would also be nice to have backup of pbix files in desktop version incase we forgot to save. Can we export report in service to desktop version?

Hi @Shane Grimes: The work on this feature already started https://ideas.powerbi.com/forums/265200-power-bi-ideas/suggestions/7679961-download-dashboards-reports-to-a-pibx-file
we're going to move servers, and lose absolutely everything - user accounts, the lot.
the steps to get everyone back up and running are really easy - make note of how your dashboards are put together, make a list of who they're shared with, republish from Desktop version.
BUT for all users without Desktop, who've done any work at all ever in PowerBI online? everything will be gone. All of it. getting someone to identify all steps they created a report from plus the other stuff? geez

An evolution of this would be to be able to change Models and Reports in POwerBi.Com directly in Power BI Desktop without the need to export or import files.
