SSAS Tabular Connector without Active Directory Sync?
There should be a way to use the SSAS Tabular Connector without AD Sync, e.g. by using CustomData on the connection string.
Thanks for the suggestion, Teo! Is anyone else in a position where they can’t use the SSAS Connector because they aren’t using AD Synchronization? If so, please add your vote here!

I'm more interested in having the ability to use both upn mappings to effective user and then have customdata rules as well. Right you can you do one or the other.

Our rather large organization is moving away from pure AD in favor of Virtual Directory Services and we've been told that AD will likely be gone within 3 years, so especially for these cloud based services, MS needs to define some alternative authentication methods or we'll also be seeing an end to the use of things like SSAS. :(
This is resolved with the Map User Name setting in the enterprise gateway. See here: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/tech-tip-thursday-user-principal-name-upn-mapping-in-power-bi/
With the forced use of AD it is useless for us.
Can we please accelerate this requirement. it is a real need for ISV's
Any update on this? Unfortunately this is becoming an urgent requirement - we might have to look at another product if this does not get resolved soon.
I have Users who are out of my domain. So now those can't be sync with AD.
So they can't have live connection.
Definitely a required feature.

I wish this one had more votes! It is really a fundamental requirement

Yes, we very much have this problem, and this would be a huge help for us.
Yes, and also the Personal Gateway

Yes, this will be a great architecture if you added this feature.
Thank you :)

Just adding another comment to express frustration! Power BI and Windows log in are the same, but still the connector does not work...

This is needless complexity. Just to use Power BI you have to use active directory? Are you going to destroy R by making that simple product into some ridiculous thing requiring a full-time admin? No wonder so many people use Tableau.

I have sort of similar porblem https://support.powerbi.com/forums/265200-power-bi/suggestions/9323871-power-bi-analysis-services-connector

Yes! My work email and my Power BI email are the same, and still this doesn't work. Sigh!

Any news on timeframe for allowing HTTPS pump? This allows us to work with models that have dynamic security rather than row level security which is a very popular way of managing security on dimensions, etc..
