Composite models when connected to SQL Server Analysis Services Tabular (SSAS)
We really love the new feature of 'Composite Models' in the Power BI July 2018 update! This enables us to join custom lists with DirectQuery sources.
It would also be beneficial if this would also work when connected to SSAS Tabular in DirectQuery.
This would stronlgy improve the enterprise features of Power BI.
Can you send me email so i can connect w/ you w the team?
This is still the ultimate goal, I saw this announcement....does anyone know if this can be extended to SSAS on-prem? Not Azure AS?

Josh BI UK. I would beg to differ. Is Business Users need to combine other data, they are going to do it. Allowing them to do this in Power BI gives the Admins some opportunity to monitor that (possibly using Telemetry in Power BI.com to check which Models have been deployed). Otherwise, users would do this but in Excel or Power Point or some other way. It's impossible to stop that. you know what they say...if you can't beat them..

Could you please give an update of whenever you plan to implement this. It's really important in a self service perspective to get this in place.
Please add soonest. Even if we can just be able to create virtual tables in PowerBI connected to SSAS
We are about to hit 2020 - Backlog update appears to be Sept 2018... ?!! At least allow disconnected slicer tables...as an interim ?

Super idee, z.s.m. mogelijk maken.
please also vote if you think we need also SAP BW as supported source for composite models https://ideas.powerbi.com/forums/265200-power-bi-ideas/suggestions/39080569-composite-models-when-connected-to-sap-business-wa
missing "composite model" support makes external SSAS Tabular the worst datasource to use with PowerBI :( Is there really NO option to add additional datatables to an SSAS Tabular "Live" Conncection? With SAP HANA/BW and directquery this can be done , also sap cloud analytics can add additional data in live mode

We need it for all live connections (i.e. SAP BW, Hana) as well

One intermediate step would be to allow the creation or import of standalone tables for use in slicers. These tables do not need to be connected in the data model to the underlying SSAS data.
These slicers can then be used to select among measures in either the underlying SSAS model or report level measures. A good example is a simple slicer to select between units displayed in lbs or kg.

Definitely need this feature to complete enterprise bi offering. Hot/warm/cold tables, with hot being direct query, would save so much mid-day processing.

It would be great if you could provide at least a timeline for the feature, It will be a game changing for the BI platform and easily transform any domain by connecting history to present.

When will this feature be updated ?
Connect 2 SSAS with composite model, That is the big evolution conception of BI really !
Would be awesome to get some info when you wanna introduce it :-)
This will greatly enhance the usability of Power BI dashboard-style capabilities
