Two fields for column names - technical one and descriptive one
The idea: we need two fields for column names:
- technical one (when getting the data)
- descriptive one (when modelling the data)
It happens often that two kinds of people cooperate when preparing data and creating visualisations in Power BI:
-technical people prepare the data
-less technicla people buld visualisations / use self-service BI
It would be very useful for those two kinds of people to have two separate column naming possibilities:
When getting the data - leave the more "technical" column names
And than - the process of renaming columns should be not "overwrite" but "fill alias descriptive filed" which would show in data model available fo building visualisations/being used by user in self-service BI.
This is available at the visual level already, but it is inconvenient. It would be better if we could provide an Alias/Friendly Name within Field Properties that would apply whenever we add the field to a visual.
I use very developer oriented names like "_dm_Vol_Resolved" for a Dax Measure for Volume Resolved. I do this for organization of my fields, which makes development faster from my end. The friendly name I would apply is "Resolved Count".
The closest thing available now is Synonyms, but that only works for Q and A visuals.
