Can Microsoft move Azure related services from PBI Pro content to free content?
Power BI free content are too limited and no addings since beginning while all new features are added into Pro content. When PBI developers demo and promote the solution to customers, there will be gap between the expectation and actual TCO. PBI solutions set up the expectation to stream data in cloud for free like Google analytics, Salesforce, etc. However, PBI solutions charge on sourcing data from Azure subscription. So, we have three questions for your feedback and one suggestion for your consideration.
1) For strategy perspective, to support Microsoft Cloud-First, Mobile-First strategy, considered Azure and data analytics(PBI)are your cloud flagship products, why not add Azure related service to PBI free content as long as users have Azure subscription just like other streaming data services? fees charged on both of PBI Pro license and Azure subscription make users in MS ecosystem feel bad and unfair.
2) For your revenue perspective, assumed PBI under Azure big profit center code, adding Azure related service into PBI free content will increase the usage of AzureVM, SQL,etc for subscriber and benefit MS total revenue. If PBI are not in Azure group, the contribution is still measured from the data volume between PBI and Azure. Can MS review PBI Pro and free content to check if they really make sense to both of customer and themselves?
3) From user experience perceptive, when PBI developer use the free content pack to demo the solution then expectation is high due to strong impression for the cost efficiency, keep adding Azure feature in Pro content will not only create the huge challenge for developers to promote PBI but jeopardize the PBI usability for customers. Can Microsoft make more features labeled as "free content" rather than Pro content? It appears a developer can not avoid the Pro content features to creates dashboards/reports but the content pack can't be shared with most of business users who don't have pro licence. It makes no sense that viewers should have a Pro license. There are 2 kinds of users in an organization. Those who build reports and dashboards and those who consume dashboards. They should not be treated as the same, right?
So, can we suggest to move more Pro labelled feature to free content as least for Azure related service because subscriber already paid and more usage on PBI will contribute to your Azure subscription?
