How can we improve Power BI?

Automatic date hierarchy for direct query data

Automatic creation of a date hierarchy for date fields only seems to work for imported data. Please enable the same feature for direct query data!

This is absolutely vital for Direct Query - need to be able to create graphs by month and year as well as actual date :(

Honestly I can't understand how NOT having date hierarchy available in DirectQuery only has 105 votes!

DirectQuery is the next step in evolution for my previous import based reports, many of them use date hierarchy to present trends etc. in graphs... I don't have the option of creating my own fields and fixing sort issues etc. in order to do what I've been doing in my reports up until now. Please get date hierarchy support into directquery soon!

I'd like to add that this should also be made available for connections to Analysis services. I'd like to take it a step further actually and make it so you could setup a default date hierarchy based upon a custom date table.

We have a need to report on date formats that aren't standard and to use these in reports currently requires importing multiple date tables and setting up relationships for the sole purpose of date hierarchies.

Agree this is a big limitation. I use power embedded and have a lot of graphs in the dashboard whit the months of the year on the x-axis. If I want use date hierachy in my graphs I have to switch to import and use the API to upload the reports manually.

This is a severe limitation with using PowerBI because I would like to use this functionality in a dashboard that always has current data, so Direct Query is a must.

Importing is a quick fix for single uses, but not at all practical for

The DirectQuery limitations of PowerBI are pretty appalling.

Direct Query is really required for handling big size of data in perspective of data handling performance and visualization speed. Also the date hierarchy is the far base of all the Power BI works. Therefore, if Power BI want to have its motto as "Easy Big Data" it should have automatic Data Hierarchy process function for Direct Query.
