Allow configurable gap width between columns/bars in all of the Column/Bar Chart types
Without control over spacing of columns and bars, data labels can overlap each other and aesthetically, the chart looks cramped.
Please add a configurable spacing parameter like the "gap width" in Excel charts to allow for better visual control.
Under the x-axis card in the formatting pane, you have several settings that can help with this.
Minimum category width lets you force the bars to be wider, enabling more readable data labels (but more scrolling).
Maximum size lets you increase the percentage of the visual the axis labels will take up, which can make the visual more readable if the labels are long.
And finally inner padding controls the gap between the bars in proportion to the bar size.
Using a combination of these features to enable to you make the labels on your visuals readable.
Found a workaround... I switched the X-axis Type to Categorical. Then the inner padding option showed up. Made the change to 0 to allow the bars to have no padding in-between (how I want to show it) and then switch the Type back to Continuous.
Magically it worked for me.
Hopefully this helps someone out there over such a weird limitation.
This should not be marked as completed. The width of bars is clearly not adjustable with a huge padding between each bar, making it very difficult to read.

I don't understand how a 'Program Manager' has responded to this item confirming task is complete, when it clearly isn't. I have the additional challenge of my bar legends don't align with the horizontal bars themselves. This makes my chart difficult to read by executives. It's a shame all of this power is let down by simple obstacles of presentation. Isn't that the purpose of PowerBI, to make data simple to read?
This is not available.
The minimum category width is set at 20 as the lowest. We need to be able to go as narrower :(
not fixed yet
I agree, this is not fixed :(
This is still an issue when all the fields are values and not x-axis
seems that all chart formatting capability in MS Excel should be available in Power BI to move users. Gap width in PBI charts is still an issue.
Please fix this. Such a simple and important option.
This needs to be addressed still.
Padding has no impact on space between the bars. It reduces overall bar width.

Inner padding is affecting bar width, it is like transparent bar's width. It is not changing the space between the bars. Can you please recheck?

Hi Amanda, it is only to do with Type = "Categorical" but when the Type = 'Continous' minimum category width is not aivialbe. is there any workaorund when clusterd chart typ is continous to do the same..

Is this also valid for Line and stacked column charts ? I can not find any of the x axis card features mentioned here to fatten columns and remove unwanted white space

Agree with other comments that we need to be able to adjust the width and space between the bars better. In my charts I often have a lot of wasted space that could be used to make the bars wider and allow the data labels to show better.

All inner padding does in Power BI desktop is make the bars smaller or bigger it does not add any space between the bars
Hello, is there any update regarding this Topic?
It would be important for me also to be able to gap spacing between columns in the same axis point, but with many measures as values.

The current configurations are not enought to make this format option, we need to gap spacing between columns in same axis point, but with many measures as values.
